Windy's football discussion thread.

We did. 3rd loss was Nov 1. No one was passing on Nico out of HS. Bringing Boo back was a mistake, it happens.

Not to mention this whole NIL/sharing thing is a new and fluid landscape. Growing pains to be expected.
Agreed plus 2 nfl level corners injured and still being paid. We can’t just pull nfl talent out of our ass either.

There's a thread about Heupel not running up the score on Florida, because his agent may be working a deal for him to be the next gator coach 🤣🤣

A team with your investment level, schedule, and 5th year with the coach shouldn't have 7-5 as an expectation. Y'all need to own some of your decisions and player evaluations that made 7-5 or 8-4 the baseline.
TL; DR

I see 6 things that have impacted our season. 3 of them I don't fault the coaches for.

1) Starting QB left.

nothing UT did could have really changed that. bringing back Nico would have been an even worse decision. seems like we got a pretty good qb, probably an upgrade out of it, but still a shock to the system to go thru that, and not something anyone has dealt with.

2) Top two CBs got hurt.

One starting CB got hurt in January, and we brought in a starting level CB to replace him. other CB got hurt in season, nothing you can do there. the freshman we are having to play has had some good moments to go with the bad, so I don't see it as a loss.

3) 3 of the top 4 DTs missed multiple games at the start of the season.

DTs all got hurt in the first game, one might have been hurt before, nothing anyone can do there, thankfully we got them back. no one has enough depth to survive losing all of those.

the only real disappointments have been TE, and special teams. safety is just a problem.

4) Tight Ends our best guy from last year forgot how to catch, and the #2 was injured, but looks great now. freshman have been playing pretty good when given the chance, but Kitselman developing the drops and not having a fix is definitely on the coaches.

5) special teams is definitely on Heupel, he did not replace the coach we lost with the same quality. just about every aspect has been bad. Kicking lost us at least 1 game, and returns has been an issue until we got rid of the cancer, again a coaching fault.

6) Safeties continue to be the weak link, which would be on coaches at this point too. we had one starting quality guy leave (starts for Miami and has been pretty good), and we didn't replace him.

defense hasn't been great, but really the only drop off has been CBs addressed in point 2. DL still looks good, LBs have gotten better. CBs dealing with replacements. Safeties mentioned above, just a weakness all around but that hasn't changed.

OL was a MASSIVE improvement. sacks and pressures have gone way down. even have guy showing flexibility, and getting freshman to look good.
WR was supposed to be a weakness that everyone was freaking out about in the preseason, and has been a strength.
LBs has been a weakness outside of one player, now we are seeing multiple freshman step up to really help us there.
