I like Bilas a lot actually. And it’s not just that I Iike Duke. He’s a good analyst that can break down complicated basketball lingo into layman’s terms.
This Tennessee team is very talented, they just have very little confidence right now. They find that spark and this team could go on a run. Not today though
Tennessee is 11-5. There’s 14 games left in the regular season. 7 at home, 7 on the road. There’s no concern right now about how get into the tourney. Lots of ways to get in. Or tank and miss out.
This spell is mind boggling. They’re playing good defense (Kentucky’s fast break an exception) and executing the offense well. They just can’t hit shots to save their life
If y’all have been following the dead horse I’ve been beating, I’ve been saying all along this is a really good tan, even in that January slump. Elite defense, speed, and the ability to switch lineups to match up with almost anybody. Tennessee’s marquee wins show that Barnes is just stating the obvious. National pundits have said it already
Absolutely. They aren’t as talented as that team, but they’re far more disciplined. Might be the most disciplined Tennessee team I’ve ever seen
I say it’s elite.
I'm the negavol...They’ve moved the ball around offensively well all year. Even in the slump. Not sure where that went the last five minutes Saturday though
ok was looking at the locker room hat Tennessee 2022 SEC Tournament Champions Locker Room HatProbably for the ad since it says it's pre-sale only - not ready to ship.
It says sec tournament on the hat
As I said in the post above the one you quoted, "on paper". Tennessee losing to Texas in the SEC-Big XII challenge hurts. The middle of the SEC beat each other up week in and week out. Tennessee hit a slump to open SEC play. As I said, no one has a better resume, but the losses to Bama, LSU and going 0-2 against the Big XII hurt.I would say the SEC was the toughest conf top to bottom this season

HOWEVER. they are supposed to invoke the human element of hot teams right now. IMPOSSIBLE to ignore Tennessee there. Tennessee even played great ball in all those losses, they just couldn't buy a basket for 3-4 weeks.
those 2 Big 12 losses hurt because they could easily have been wins at the end, but the Arizona win, as long ago as it was still looks good -- Ive seen LSU as a 6 seed - not sure how this Lunardi comes up with his choicesAs I said in the post above the one you quoted, "on paper". CBS has bumped TN to a two seed. replaced Nova. That surprises me. I think they either bump UK or Purduethose 2 Big 12 losses hurt because they could easily have been wins at the end, but the Arizona win, as long ago as it was still looks good -- Ive seen LSU as a 6 seed - not sure how this Lunardi comes up with his choices
Just gotta learn how to break that press.and I loved all the different lineups Barnes threw out in the SECT. big teams? Got it. Small teams? Got it. Gonna go at us in a zone? Got that too. Regardless what happens the next month, this team is really, really good. But March is a crapshoot for almost everybody.
Every time I see us struggle with the press I ask myself "Do we have anyone who can toss that round ball 45 feet or more?". If we're gonna turn it over, I'd rather it be the other side of the court and not under their basket. GeeshDefinitely a struggle for them. Which is weird with all the guards they have. They need Fulky and/or Plavsic corralling desperation passes at half court.
What really kills then imo is still the fast break. They have no means of stopping it.
I grew up admiring Nolan Richardson’s 40 Minutes of Hell. Imo, a good press can screw up good half court offenses. Tennessee has a great half court offense. They move the ball around and know how and where to find the open man. The press creates imbalance to that set offense, chews up shot clock and creates disarray. Their biggest flaw against the press, again imo, is simply inbounding the ball. When they do inbound, they’re typically already in a corner. In trouble before there even start like thatEvery time I see us struggle with the press I ask myself "Do we have anyone who can toss that round ball 45 feet or more?". A few years ago I heard a mouth piece on TV explain that teams who press a lot do it to overcome their own lack of height. Really?
