The early skaters in the men’s free skate cannot hold the blade caddies of the 15-year old Russian chick.

The Ukrainian has more acne than a southern buffet table has starchy dishes. His skating is… precarious.

Ice dancers are the most imaginative. Jumps not allowed. Throws not allowed. Overhead lifts not allowed. Two US couples look good. One of them might make it to the podium.

With the command economy dynamic of the communist party, China is able to repeatedly marshal the financial wherewithal to dazzle the brazenly corrupt IOC. If there’s no reform of the IOC, we can expect China to host the Olympics again and again.

US playing China in curling, leading 7-2, they go scoreless, surrendering 4 points (including steals). Their lead is 1 point in the 10th and final end. The US has the hammer, but nothing in the house. China has the tying stone in the house… and… the US ekes out a win.

Women’s figure skating short program live since 5:55am ET. US skater, Mariah Bell had an early draw, fell, but recovered to score over 65 and is holding second highest score, presently. I think the top ten go on to the free skate to compete for medals. Heavy hitters (including her US teammate and the controversial Russian phenomenon) have yet to skate.

OK, did the 15-year old Russian skater knowingly take the PED, or was she unwittingly doped by the Russian National Olympic Program? By international rules, her positive test result late last year should’ve precluded her from participating in the Olympics, even though she’s tested negative for PEDs multiple times since. “Special circumstances” apply because she is under 16 years of age. The international rules committee has decided to allow her participation in the Olympic Games. Controversially, the decision is a FU to the clean athletes.

IMHO, her talent isn’t attributable to PEDs. Not just her athleticism, her technical skill, but her artistic presentation is beyond her years. I want to see her skate, but I acknowledge the corruption in the IOC and IRC and the repercussions of their decisions. She shouldn’t be on the ROC team. She should have to wait the appropriate time interval with negative PED tests before participating in international competitions.

Japan’s Higuchi throwing down, opening with a triple axel (tip of the hat to Midori Ito). Flawless technical execution to this layman’s eyes. Who knows what artistic scores she’ll receive from the judges.

US’s Liu on the ice. Her artistic presentation evident from opening. Her jumps are flawless. She placed her triple triple combo in the middle of her performance, pacing athletic and artistic sequences. Awesome!

All 3 ROC skaters in the final group? The fix is in. And here we thought the meeting between Putin and Xi was about providing access to international banking and US dollars after Russia invades Ukraine…
