Anyone heard anything about ole Willie Martinez? I thought his contract was suppose to be up at the end of the season. I'm really hoping we can upgrade that coaching position but it seems to be radio silence on the hill about Willie.

He calls soft coverage because they are slow and he’s not trying to be Sal sunseri
This.

I’m not saying Banks or Martinez are the answer but they’ve improved the defense and done it with relatively thin talent in the secondary. We’re just now getting some guys that are young and talented ready.

but they’ve improved the defense

Improved?

They got torched by anyone with a pulse. The only teams the secondary looked good against were the ones that were easily beat.

Martinez should’ve been replaced after this season. I’m not hating on Banks yet, he deserves at least 1 more season.

😂 Go back and watch tape of year one. Tank and Hadden were dramatically improved this year. Banks decides what coverage they’re in.

And our CBs are just not fundamentally sound either. How many times did they fail to turn their heads? Simple stuff. You hear people talk about oh Martinez has out so many guys in the NFL over the past 30 years. But are any of them really any good? Very few.

Yep. Just like I said, Heupel doesn’t like to replace coaches unless he absolutely has to. Apparently he doesn’t want to try and upgrade his staff either.
I “think” he wants to give guys a fair evaluation when they get decent talent in place. I think this was said for those that chose to jump into this dumpster fire when Heupel started. Heupel had an easy out here as well; Martinez was considering retirement. I think our evaluations and Heupel’s are completely different. I’m not sold one way or the other but I think up till right now it would’ve been hard for anyone to be successful. And btw a lot of coaches at major programs have hired or tried to hire Martinez.

You keep putting a lot on the line with your REDUNDANCY GONE BAD routine on CWM. You better hope you are right and that clearing out the room after this season and reloading next season does not show a big turnaround........ because I will make an effort to attack your credibility on any subject next year based on this HARD stance. Hopefully as many times as you have jumped on this guy. If I have the stamina.

Banks is the main problem. When the other team has 3rd and long, they got us where they want us.

I could care less to be frank. You can attack my credibility at will. You are nothing more than an anonymous person on this message board. I don’t care or respect your opinion. If I am wrong about Martinez then I will gladly say I was. Your threats are empty and meaningless. Attack away.

Anyone who doesn’t see drastic improvement in Hadden doesn’t know football. He has the lowest passer rating when targeted of any CB in America this year. His injury against Alabama was devastating. Martinez improved Taylor, Jackson, and Hadden while here and turned each into an NFL player…something that seemed unlikely for each at various points in their careers.

He will have more raw material to work with this year with Gibson, McCoy, Beasley, Matthews, etc. Those are all guys with top end SEC ceilings and who can play man/press coverage, which this staff wants to do, but hasn’t been able. And I’m really looking forward to Jourdan Thomas at Star. I think he’s going to break out.

Tank also improved at Safety, but his ceiling is much lower than Hadden’s because his lack of speed hurts. Slaughter is that athletic Safety we’ve been lacking. I think Jakobe Thomas at the other Safery spot will be solid too. The secondary is the area of this program that has been lacking the most in SEC talent and is the last to get there, talent-wise. But I think we’re starting to see it now. The turnover from last year to 2024 will be a good thing.
