Williams had a slight coming out game tonight... other teams are gonna have to start scheming for his physical presence in the middle and soft hands... the kid is gonna be a star... Chism and him are gonna be great inside this year for the Vols!... All worries i had about us missing Duke inside are gone but i still hope he is able to return... Does anyone have stats on Williams tonight, I know he had about 10 boards before half way mark in the second... Thoughts?

When I saw this kid play against Temple I knew he was going to be a star. Just not this early. He has loads of potential and is still just learning the game. The sky is the limit for Brian, he has great things ahead of him.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, maybe it's the cold weather up there that keeps them in the gym playing basketball all of the time instead of outside playing Baseball or basketball. Either way, he's getting the job done and I'll keep cheering for him,

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but he is mildly limited on the athletic ability side. Appears to have decent hands and is enormous, but I just don't see him being dominant any time soon. He has to build some strength and learn one helluva lot more about footwork, positioning and leverage. He shined tonight because WKU has no semblance of an inside presence.

Would be nice to see him get the start Wednesday. We now have the option of going big if need be.
What do you guys think about the possibility of this lineup occasionally:

G-JP (6'7)
G-Lofton (6'2)
G/F-T. Smith (6'7)
F-Chism (6'9)
F-Williams (6'10)

Is it possible we could get a few rebounds out of that lineup?? Also, would be nice to get Tatum in place of Lofton for a few minutes with that lineup and the whole line would be bigger than 6'6".

He certainly doesn't excel into a Bruce Pearl system that involves running, but we now have that body to beat down low and gain rebounds with size when we're forced into a half-court game. He does have faults, but I believe this kid can accomplish anything after hearing of his work ethic these past 2 or 3 years.

Just enough snow and just right summers.
Cincy is a crazy place, weather changes about every thirty minutes some times

I will say this, I used to live in North Carolina and I got the pleasure of attending a Duke camp with my son at one time when Shelden Williams was a freshman. Shelden was not much better then than Brian is now. In fact, I believe Brian's hands and feel for the game are better now while Shelden was a little better with the post moves.

I am not trying to say Brian Williams will turn out to be the next Shelden Williams, just simply trying to point out what a little hard work could do with his potential. Nothing is stopping him from losing a little more weight, working on his post moves and footwork, and continuing to grow his game to the all-conference and all-american type player in the next 3 years.

Shelden Williams had about 4,972,834 times the athletic ability that Williams has. I'm not trying to beat him up, but he and Chism are nowhere close to being an inside presence for the 07-08 Vols as was suggested above.

I never suggested the 07-08 Vols, if that's what you mean. I said in the next 3 years.

And you are correct about Shelden's athletic ability, but he also was never 350+ pounds. After losing a little more weight, Brian will get that much more athletic. He has already improved light years since his first game in the summer league.

explosive athleticism would be visible today. fast twitch muscle doesn't appear to be his strong suit.

I wouldn't say that Shelden was ever an explosive athlete either. That term, at least in my mind, is reserved for the likes of Marvin Williams/Tyrus Thomas like post players.

williams has pretty solid athletic ability. he moves his bulk around pretty well. Marvin Williams and Tyrus Thomas couldn't combined bench or squat what SWilliams can. He's big and athletic. Those guys are athletic. BWilliams is just big.

if he can give me 16 and 14 every night (which is a FAR FAR FAR fetch) i dont care if you cant slip a quarter in under his feet when he jumps.

agree 100%. I'm just saying that such expectation are the stretch you mentioned so as to temper some of the ridiculousness posted above.

i would think more playing time should burn off some excess weight pretty fast. i only got to see the first few minutes of the game, but i saw that he was hustlin. with him still learning, his potential is exciting. i also think that being that big, before, the kid might not know his own athletic ability. everything he does or has done, with all that weight will come easier as he loses fat and gains muscle.

Big alone doesn't get you 16 and 14.

BW has better hands and touch than his distant cousin Shelden. Shelden is quicker and more explosive. Who cares?
