Will you consider 7-5 a successful season for Butch Jones in Year Three?

Would you consider a 7-5 record a successful season this year?

I love your catch 22 polls that you use to pick an argument on this board. First glance at the thread and knew who had written it.

If some says no you will flame them and if someone states yes you will flame them.

Flame away....LOL..... the answer is YES and NO. Ask at the end of the season, it will save you time and it will be easier to discuss. One thing for sure you will find a way to criticize both ends of the spectrum.

I would say 7-5 and a bowl win would be a success. They still are very young and the secondary is banged up. Some teams(Florida and mizzou), that people pencil in as wins, might not be the pushover that you think they are. Vols may be only be 1-2 games better this season but it's still progress.

The thing that scares me the most about our schedule and our talent level, is that we are good enough to play with "anybody". But are we good enough to beat "anybody"? I think we are...as always I think we will win some we shouldn't and lose one we shouldn't. My greatest fear is that we play everyone tough, and at the end of the year I'm saying, "Damn, do you realize we lost 6 games by a total of only 18 points??? Soooooooo, close. Just wait'll next year!". Cause I will, I will say that, cause I'm a sunshine-pumper! :)

I'm with you. I feel like this is our year to get back on track with Florida. Had them each of the past 2 years, back when we were still "learning to win" (I don't like that phrase, but I get what it means. If I have a chance to close out someone in darts, my butthole puckers, I guess the same thing happens to a coach and individual players).

Mizzou? I just never have a good feeling about them because I know how Mauk has hurt us in the past...but hell, we've had 3 years to prep for him by now. I've just never been in a situation where I pull for the starting QB to be healthy against us so we don't have to see his backup (Mauk in the past).

And here I gave a third option just for folks like you who can't bear to give win-loss records any meaning or hold a coach accountable for any result. See, everyone can participate!

Yeah, coaches have to be held accountable for these losses.
Wait, didn't we win?

Everyone needs to quit watching SEC network and freaking out over their analysis. This team will be fine

Didn't see sec network but was in section 134 row g.

Gave up way too many big pass plays( reminds me of last year).

When we finally attempt a pass over 5 yards it hits our receiver in the hands and he drops it. ( reminds me of last year)

My expectations of this defense being dominant was based on highly touted freshman DL and LB's being a big factor,
And most saw very little or limited playing time,

So yeah it's only one game but I m a little less confident we get better than 8-4.

9 wins is a far reach. 8 wins is a doable maybe. 7 is what Im expecting. 6 wouldnt shock me. 5 would make me question my life choices.

There's nothing wrong with an 8-4 season this year.

We have youth or paper thin depth at multiple key positions. 8 wins would be a two game increase from last year, likely meaning we will win two more conference games. 8-4 would get us a New Years Bowl and an opportunity to finish 9-4 and ranked, more than enough to keep the recruiting ball rolling.

People that honestly believe/d that we would go 10-2 are delusional and it is going to be a very long, rough year for you.

Thread is about season records. Maybe want to read it more carefully.

It's a thread about a season that hasn't been played yet.
Everyone should know what this is.
At least everyone that knows your posts.

Bingo. Someone should have started a poll about how long after a sub par performance the OP magically reappears and commences to whining? Well, now we know.

I'm curious where the standards are at this point.
It depends on too many variables, like which are the 7 and which are the 5, injuries, etc. I cannot in good conscience answer your query as stated.

I would be really disappointed. Time to win and that is what we should expect this year.

We do

I'll be disappointed with anything less than 9 wins including a bowl win.

Hell no, but if we do go 7-5, this site will come up with ~a billion excuses to explain why 7-5 is a great season

Exactly. I think that's what all the non-voters in this thread are already planning on and that's why they will never set a standard. Excuses have become like breathing to much of this fanbase.

7 wins is probably the minimum we could have to continue the program's momentum. I think 8-4 is a reasonable expectation for this team. Still very young but talent increasing. Our health will be a big part of expectations moving forward, and its fair to say losing Jackson, Gaulden, and McNeil hurts and might mean the difference in a win.

I've thought 8 wins all along and still do. Anything else would be great. Anything less would be a disappointment.

The same with me. 8-4 is the record I predicted months ago and I saw nothing yesterday, good or bad, to change my mind.

I wouldn't say 7-5 would be a failure. That's too strong of a word. However it would be disappointing.

So you got a good buzz going when BGSU cut it to one, started formulating a Fire The Whole Staff thread and the team let you down by winning...by 29? Should have just bedded a transvestite...less humiliating. :)
