Will we ever see 95-99 again?

I don't think so. People need to understand the drastic change in the SEC landscape that has occurred from then to what it is now. When we were dominate, there was only ONE other legitimate great team in the SEC that we had to compete with..Florida. Alabama was way down, LSU was way down, Auburn was decent but no where near elite, South Carolina was a doormat along with Vandy. Arkansas, Georgia and Miss st were decent but not close to Tenn and Fla. NOW the SEC has LSU, Bama, Fla, Goergia, SC, and Ark(with the exception on this year) that are all good to elite programs. Shoot even Vandy is no longer a pushover and is now competitive. Texas A&M is creepin up there too. Basically what I'm saying is that the SEC is extremely competitive pretty much across the board. We once had to deal with 1 team, now we deal with 5 BCS top ten teams. Things are WAY different!
The difference is we were elite then and the teams feared us like they fear LSU and Bama now. I don't buy this argument.

1995 there were four teams in the top 25 (UT and UF were #2 and #3)
1996 there were five (four teams with ten wins)
1997 there were six teams in the top 25 and five with 10 or more wins (three in the east were top ten)
1998 there were four in the top 25 (three in the east were top 15)

Also remember it was an eleven game schedule so 10 wins was much harder then as well.

Didn't finish outside the top 10 any of those yrs. Of course 2 sec championships and a natl title. 8 total losses in 5 yrs (including bowl games), and 4 of those were to the gators. Man, those were some great yrs!!!!

not in my lifetime if ever. 90s were not the norm

Here is what I found from 1970 to 1989 (20 seasons) we won:

7 games (which is equivalent to 8 wins in today's 12 game regular season schedule) or more - 14 times or 70%
8 games (which is equivalent to 9 wins in today's 12 game regular season schedule) or more - 9 times or 45%
9 games (equivalent to 10 wins in today's 12 game schedule) or more - 7 times or 35%
10 games (equivalent to 11 wins in today's 12 game schedule) or more - 5 times or 25%
11 games (equivalent to 12 wins in today's 12 game schedule) or more - 2 times or 10%

:Now, let's do the same exercise for the 1990's:

1999 9 3
1998 13 0
1997 11 2
1996 10 2
1995 11 1
1994 8 4
1993 10 2
1992 9 3
1991 9 3
1990 9 2 2

7 wins or more - 10 times or 100%
8 wins or more - 10 times or 100%
9 wins or more - 9 times or 90%
10 wins or more - 5 times or 50%
11 wins or more - 3 times or 30%

That's an average of 37% for the 1970-89 period and an average of 74% from 1990-99. For uniformity, 1970-79 - 36%; 1980-89 - 38%.

Now, 2000-09.

2000-09

2009 7 6
2008 5 7
2007 10 4
2006 9 4
2005 5 6
2004 10 3
2003 10 3
2002 8 5
2001 11 2
2000 8 4

7 or more - 80% (12 game began in 2002, so 75% from 2002-09)
8 or more - 70% (12 game began in 2002, so 62.5% from 2002-09)
9 or more - 50% (12 game began in 2002, so 50% from 2002-09)
10 or more - 40% (12 game began in 2002, so 37.5% from 2002-09)
11 or more - 10% (12 game began in 2002, so 0% from 2002-09)
12 or more - 0% (only 2002-09, but we didn't win 12 in the 10 year period FWIW)

Back down from 74% to 50% (2000-09) and 45% (2002-09).

Since 1960, we have won 10+ games in a single season 22 times in a 53 year period (including this year). I got the 22 number by counting any 9 win season from 1960-2001 as a 10 win season, due to playing 11 regular season games.

Out of that 22 times, 9 of those times occurred 1990-1999!!! So, over the other 43 years combined we have won 10+ games in a single season a combined 13 times.

Not with this horrible staff.

Losing has become acceptable and second nature around UT. Excuses fill the stadium more than the fans.

You wish. Fulmer was our best shot at getting us there, and picking a successor to getting us there.

Not with a coach who can not count! Please get us a real coach ! We have the only Team in the SEC where fans praise a coach for a lose and fight to keep him as we keep dropping in every possible statistic.

Yes....when we bring back (CPF) the one we should have never fired.

He should have been fired sooner. Don't mistake the bad hires after that with the true need to fire him.

Your hero started the slide.

Stupid theory

He couldn't even pick a decent OC. How in the hell would he pick a quality HC??

They were great, but man they could have been totally awesome if we'd beat Florida one or two more times. Reminded me of the late 80's and early 90's when Alabama loses kept us from reaching higher highs.

Great times none the less for sure.

Deal with "my hero" and his record. 152-52 in SEC and NC. You are what your record says you are. Spin away.
