The difference is we were elite then and the teams feared us like they fear LSU and Bama now. I don't buy this argument.I don't think so. People need to understand the drastic change in the SEC landscape that has occurred from then to what it is now. When we were dominate, there was only ONE other legitimate great team in the SEC that we had to compete with..Florida. Alabama was way down, LSU was way down, Auburn was decent but no where near elite, South Carolina was a doormat along with Vandy. Arkansas, Georgia and Miss st were decent but not close to Tenn and Fla. NOW the SEC has LSU, Bama, Fla, Goergia, SC, and Ark(with the exception on this year) that are all good to elite programs. Shoot even Vandy is no longer a pushover and is now competitive. Texas A&M is creepin up there too. Basically what I'm saying is that the SEC is extremely competitive pretty much across the board. We once had to deal with 1 team, now we deal with 5 BCS top ten teams. Things are WAY different!
1995 there were four teams in the top 25 (UT and UF were #2 and #3)
1996 there were five (four teams with ten wins)
1997 there were six teams in the top 25 and five with 10 or more wins (three in the east were top ten)
1998 there were four in the top 25 (three in the east were top 15)
Also remember it was an eleven game schedule so 10 wins was much harder then as well.
