Will we actually be ranked going into game 1?

Zero chance we begin the season ranked. We were 7-6 last year without a single victory over a ranked team.

We won't be ranked and we don't deserve to be. However, the hype around the program may sneak us in after a good victory over BGSU.

All depends on how much ESPN wants to hype up the OU game

I ran into a Negavol in McCaysville Georgia while getting a haircut. I told him that Tennessee would fight it out with UGAG for the SEC East this season and he told me "no way Tennessee is too young". I then preceded to tell him that Tennessee had the #4 recruiting class and that they would win the SEC East in 2016. Tennessee skeptics are spread around far and wide. I think Tennessee could be ranked 20-25 but wouldn't be shocked if they were unranked going into the 2015 season.

Do you post on ajc.com under the same name? I recall the UGA fans giving a Dave Tech fan a hard time.

I think we will come in at 22. After the OU beat down we will be cruising in the top 15.

From everything Ive heard/read, yes and rightfully so.

Just out of curiosity, how do we deserve to be ranked going into next season? Don't get me wrong, I will be happier than a fat guy at an all you can eat buffet if we are ranked. I just don't know if we have done enough to deserve it before the first game is played.

Going by all these way too early polls plus we are the team with the most buzz . Even ESPN is on the bandwagon

We've got more experience coming back than any other team in the nation. I think we deserve a little recognition with that and getting a full dose of Dobbs (who turned our season around and breathed life into the program).

There are 8 kids from IMG Academy (FL) in Rivals top 80! Is there a bias there or are they just THAT good?

I think that TN is without a doubt one of the 25 best teams. But they are in the middle of the pack in the SEC and teams that lose games lose spots in the rankings. I'll be surprised in they are not in the Top 25 at 0-0.

The early rankings shouldn't be a projection of where they end up, but that probably is how many vote. They want to show how close their pre-season rankings compare to the final rankings.

Well, to be fair, if negavols set their expectations high they get chastised for setting up the coaches for failure.

gonna say..this is a misprint on your part..negavols never think we win anything..coaches suck at all parts/places of the game..just ask armchair.:)

I don't think Tennessee should be nor do I hope that they are. Teams just breaking the top 25 have a very hard time of getting back in if they stumble a bit early in the season. It's the polar opposite of a team that is heavily overrated at the beginning of the year and are top 5, and they can lose 5 in a row and still cling onto a ranking. Yes, Tennessee has a ton of momentum with a good bowl win and an awesome NSD. But in the end this is a team who barely got past Vandy and whose offense really sputtered for nearly half of the 12 games that they played.

Now, if they roar out of the gates and beat Bowling Green big and then roll on OU, then they should be in. If they continue that streak for the next two weeks, then they should be in the mid teens. And if they make it to the Oct 17 bye with one loss they still should be knocking on the top ten. I'm obviously hoping for 7-0 at that point and an even higher ranking as a result (and the east all but wrapped up at that point). However, fact still lies that they play a very tough four games there with one breather: OU -> breather -> FL -> Arkansas -> Georgia.

Will be borderline..some will have us sneaking into 25..others will have us just outside of it..receiving votes etc...

I'm more worried about whether or not we'll be ranked at the end of the year, as opposed to the beginning of the year.

Yes, but I would rather not.

I would rather us be under hyped and over achieve. Although it is reading all these good reports/projections for a change.

This. Preseason rankings mean nothing once the season starts, other than maybe helping you climb if you keep winning.
