Will Wade has been contacted...

who thinks like this??? So your contention is that Hart cares zero about this hire, just as long as he doesn't have to try very hard. He is fine with hiring just whomever because he thinks the fanbase will support the hire anyway....

Please explain, you think he is too lazy to look for a coach? You think he doesn't care if he does a good job as AD??

If Butch Jones wins football games and wins lots of them, not a damn person will give a crap about how our basketball team does or who Hart hires as coach. They will think Hart is doing a very good job as AD.

That's reality.

No its not. I love Tennessee football and want like heck for them to become what the once were. But I assure you that I will always give a crap what the basketball team does.

Flame away

Tennessee is not a basketball school. It just isnt. do we occasionally compete in the tournament? Yes. But Tennessee isnt going to ever pay a head coach the same money that Kentucky or Florida or Indiana or Duke or North Carolina. Those schools are "all in" for basketball and their football programs are marginalized...

People really need to get over themselves when it comes to UT basketball. They ARE NOT and WILL NEVER bend themselves over in order to get a super popular big named basketball coach.

We will get another mid-major coach that most people are unfamiliar with. ...

We should be able to find a happy medium. I don't expect a basketball program that is vying for the Final Four every year or a HC a Duke, UNC, KY could bring in. But we should be able to do better than a lower level mid-major coach.

There are quite a few other schools who have successfully balanced football and basketball. Michigan, Mich St, Ohio St, etc have all been top 20 programs in both sports on a fairly consistent basis. LSU, Oklahoma and others have also achieved a relative amount of success at both sports over the years too. No reason why Tennessee, with it's resources and facilities couldn't have a top tier football program and a top 25 caliber basketball team most years.

Further to that, Billy Donovan was nothing before taking over at Florida. His salary today is a direct result of his delivered performance. Florida wasnt out to "break the bank". They hired an unknown and he turned out. Also, Bruce Pearl was not a big name when UT hired him. He was more infamous than famous.

We will get another mid-major coach that most people are unfamiliar with. It has nothing to do with UT's current financial situation because back when UT had money in reserve, they still didnt hire big named basketball coaches.

Florida's football program marginalized? What would ever give you that impression?

but you would have to admit that this would be a major step change in the program's history, though. Not the norm. Other than the brief period of the Bruce Pearl year, Tennessee has rarely if ever had a basketball program that was successful along with the football program over many years. As with most SEC schools, it is "all hands on deck" for the football program.

They do have a huge arena, but they always planned to leverage the arena for other purposes (concerts, conferences, etc.) to compete with the convention center.

They did have both but it was women's hoops. If you look at the overall dismal state of UTK sports you can't help but suspect a systemic problem.

Florida is good at both. The other UT has been historically good not great at both. THE OSU is good at both. Michigan and Michigan State are good at both. Louisville is good at both.

There's no rule that says a school can only be good at one sport.

You do realize that this is the same fanbase that convinced themselves Dooley was a good hire, right? If anything, recent history has shown that the majority of Vol fans will give three years to just about anyone as long as they smile at their press conference.

Yes he was supported by most until he showed he couldn't cut it.. That's how it should be.

Florida State is becoming good at both.

you didnt ask me but ill chime in - i think Hart is too consumed with finances to make a good hire. hed rather gamble and look like a genius finding a diamond in the rough at a cheap price than fork over 2 mill for a coach we DESERVE.

how in the hell Vandy can pay Kevin Stallings 1.9mill a year after 14 years of crap but we have top 5 or 10 attendance and are trying to find someone under 1mill makes no sense to me.

Maybe Hart is getting paid too much

If we're going stupid, Drew Maddux, former Vandy player and current CPA coach, would be a better hire....he has a recruiting track record pretty damn impressive. 2nd best in the state only to Pastner

I don't think Hart is stupid enough to hire a private Christian school coach. This isn't Notre Dame hiring Gerry Faust.

Yeah, I'm not going to log out for calling out you and the hundreds of other posters like you who cannot go five minutes without bringing up Bruce Pearl. It's obnoxious, it's not pertinent to the discussion, and he's the head coach at another school. Get over it.

Ok cool. Hey there is another thread where I was considering mentioning Don Devoe. Before I did that I just wanted to get your permission and make sure it was okay with you. :eek:lol:

Ummm, if we go this far down the list...

Just hire Howland. No more coaches that the general fan base has to google.

with all the openings, and he hasn't been hired by any of them and been out of coaching for 2 years...
may be a reason why...

Partying, players disrespecting program led to problems at UCLA - SI.com - Magazine

I'll take a good coach and a good fit over someone I've heard of...I've heard of Kim Kardashian, that doesn't mean I want her coaching UT's BB program...we could've had Gregg Marshall years ago,but we had to google him,so thats a no go...now it would cost $3 million at the very least to get the same guy...

I'm just saying it's possible to be good at both and to be good at BBall without having to get a KY, UNC, Duke type HC.
