Will Vol Nation re-take spring game record?

We NEVER have enough healthy players to even play the damn game. So it's just a glorified practice. That's the way it'll always be under Butch.

Just call it an open spring practice with extra time on the field with the kids. Let kids 15 and under run drills with the players.....punt, pass, and kick style. Have throwing accuracy competitions with the QB's. Catching instruction with the wides..... Get the fans involved and forget calling it a spring game which it hasn't been for years.

Tennessee would have a better chance of recapturing the spring game attendance crown if the team played an actual game in lieu of the fractured and glorified practice its spring game has dissolved into.

Amen to this. Butch needs desperately to have a clue and leave the rah-rah circus behind and return the O&W game to being a real, damned football game.

Have a clue, Butch.

I don't mind changing the scoring to reward other areas of the game, but I really don't care for the break in action for the one on one drills and the WWE type atmosphere with Butch on the mic. Plus last year the format was so disjointed the SECN cut away with 6:00 left in the game portion.

If this Doof of a coach worried more about Game plans than lying about how many people came to a practice game or handing out participation trophies then his seat might not be hot

113 to 103 doesn't sound like football to me if Basketball had a Summer game that would be a heck of a basketball game.

He's trying to reward a number of things, basically for the defense, so I get it. But it is odd seeing a 84-67 score or something like that.

That score is not so far fetched after you watch our defense the 2nd 1/2 of last season.:ermm:

The Spring Game is the last day of spring PRACTICE. They have tried for years to get the NCAA to allow a “scrimmage” game with another team. These requests have always been denied. An inter-squade scrimmage as was conducted 30-40 years ago was discontinued because of the fear of injury to the 85 man team. Back when you could have 120 players, there was not as much concern with injuries.

I can just imagine if we had a "real" scrimmage game and there was a major injury or injuries, these same people complaining about how boring it use to be would be writing at least there was less of a chance for a player to be hurt. It's the VN way.

The amount of injuries we've had around the spring time definitely made CBJ alter the game into a weird practice. I'm okay with it because it limits injuries (knock on wood) but it's hella boring and makes me miss watching traditional spring scrimmages.
