Will Vol Nation re-take spring game record?

Tennessee would have a better chance of recapturing the spring game attendance crown if the team played an actual game in lieu of the fractured and glorified practice its spring game has dissolved into.

I haven't watched the entire game the last few years, I only watch the highlights on Youtube. Butch's version of a spring game bores me to tears.

The Spring Game is the last day of spring PRACTICE. They have tried for years to get the NCAA to allow a “scrimmage” game with another team. These requests have always been denied. An inter-squade scrimmage as was conducted 30-40 years ago was discontinued because of the fear of injury to the 85 man team. Back when you could have 120 players, there was not as much concern with injuries.

If you look at the overhead shots from last year there weren't nearly as many people there as they stated. The lower bowl in Neyland holds around 67-68K people. With as close as the seat numbers are on the bleachers you can take half that amount and make it look "full".

But inflating Spring game attendance seems to be the new trend these days, not just at UT.

Why anyone cares what the attendance is to a spring game is beyond me. It's a spring game lol

I guess it's a recruiting talking point for all of 5 minutes. Sort of like leaving the field painted in Jan for recruiting visits. That doesn't make any sense to me.

Georgia had a free concert at halftime, so unless some team decides to waste money on something like that, Georgia will hold this meaningless title.

Less chance for injuries the way it is now.

I care to watch it and enjoy watching any Vol football I can possibly get. Couldn't care less about how many people are there, it doesn't matter in the least imo. We'll probably have 50k or so, like we normally do.

UT held the spring game record for 20 years, can Vol nation re-take it?

Answer: No.

Commentary: Confidence (not hopefulness) in the program is somewhat down. Although the AD hire looks good on paper, there's still a lot of uncertainty surrounding it. Lastly, as others have already articulated, the Spring Game has gravitated into a dressed up version of "Open Practice," so it doesn't give the fanbase the feel of being at a game. And, that "feel" is part of what gets the fanbase "jonesing" for the fall.

I enjoy the spring game. It's the only time footballs going on during the offseason so might as well and it gives me an excuse to visit old friends in K-Town. Plus it's always a sense of pride that we have great turn outs for the spring game conpared to other programs
