Will UT replace UAB with another cupcake

I want to schedule ETSU in a few years. They can't schedule us for another year or two (game won't count for us), but that would be a cool matchups given the proximity.

Memphis will not be playing UT football. Josh Pastner and John Calipari both lobbied against playing UT in basketball.

You're absolutely insane if you think Memphis wouldn't jump at the opportunity to get paid well and get to play UT.

Don't necessarily want a cupcake but teams like Utah St, Ark St are better caliber teams. I think the Vols need a test like those teams but not an Oregon nor an obvious cupcake. Strength of schedule will make a difference in this new format imo.

Florida State would disagree.

Different story though. That was basketball.

In this sport the case is more UT doesn't care to play Memphis too often...I could be mistaken, but I think the state legislature has had to push for it some of the past matchups.

I think I read somewhere that Memphis would't renew the bball games so UT decided not to do the football games. I could be way off on this.

Tennessee is now in scramble mode to find a season-opening opponent for the 2015 football season.
UAB — which was scheduled open 2015 against the Vols in Nashville at the Tennessee Titans' LP Field — is terminating its football program after this season, according to a Tuesday press release from the university.
Tennessee is now owed $925,000 for UAB terminating the contract for next season's game, but the Vols likely will have to pay more than that to find a replacement at such a late date — though it won't be impossible, because many programs would love to have that kind of paycheck.
Since Tennessee already has one NCAA Division I FCS opponent on its 2015 schedule, the Vols almost certainly would need to replace UAB with another NCAA Division I FBS opponent. Tennessee could apply for a waiver from the NCAA to play two FCS opponents in one season and have both wins count toward bowl eligibility, but that doesn't seem as likely as simply scheduling another FBS opponent according to a Tuesday press release from the university.

This will be difficult since all schedules are full. Probably go down UAB's schedule and find a team needing a game!

They had South Alabama, Georgia st. and Troy as the only other games on their schedule in 2015.

I say give Troy a call let UAB fund the $925,000 to them so we can whip their arse!

Idc who we play as long as they are FBS. Don't want to deal with the people saying "you played two FCS opponents"

San Diego State

All have OOC holes for next year and are free that weekend

Only UAB schedule I could find for next year was for first 4 games and besides TN, the teams were GA State, South Alabama, and Troy. Any of those teams would seem like logical and comparable replacements as they will have a game to fill now as well. However, this would require them to move another game too I guess.

Last 6 would be okay. First 2 are too tough with OK also on docket. ECU might be a trap too --- ask UNC.

ECU has a brutal OOC already so doubt they would want us anyways.

Edit: they already have @Florida, @BYU and VT
