Tennessee is now in scramble mode to find a season-opening opponent for the 2015 football season.
UAB which was scheduled open 2015 against the Vols in Nashville at the Tennessee Titans' LP Field is terminating its football program after this season, according to a Tuesday press release from the university.
Tennessee is now owed $925,000 for UAB terminating the contract for next season's game, but the Vols likely will have to pay more than that to find a replacement at such a late date though it won't be impossible, because many programs would love to have that kind of paycheck.
Since Tennessee already has one NCAA Division I FCS opponent on its 2015 schedule, the Vols almost certainly would need to replace UAB with another NCAA Division I FBS opponent. Tennessee could apply for a waiver from the NCAA to play two FCS opponents in one season and have both wins count toward bowl eligibility, but that doesn't seem as likely as simply scheduling another FBS opponent according to a Tuesday press release from the university.
This will be difficult since all schedules are full. Probably go down UAB's schedule and find a team needing a game!
They had South Alabama, Georgia st. and Troy as the only other games on their schedule in 2015.
I say give Troy a call let UAB fund the $925,000 to them so we can whip their arse!
