Will UT be vanilla in game 1?

assuming we can force our will upon UTM, does the staff try to keep the O and D simple for this game, or do they need to see what they have to work with, ie: blitzes, wildcat formation,etc? it would seem that the less film to review for our opponents in games 2 and 3, the better, but obviously, that might not be the case with alot of inexperience on the team. thoughts anyone? gbo

I think DD goes for the basics, left foot then right foot. Keep it simple and build confindence

Doubt it... we'll try and use that game as an extended practice session.

If the team was more experienced, I could see us going full vanilla, but not when we're starting a billion new players.

i also wonder how much time Dooley would preferrable give the starters. alot of reps to build chemistry, or not so many to save injuries?

Dooley would be foolish to not be vanilla in the Martin game. Why let Oregon prepare?

It will be simple IMO....a lot of new starters....at least thats the way it should be

Ya know? I actually think we might win at least 8 games this year. I know it's crazy and there is nothing to back it up, just a feeling. Could be wrong.

Here's a hint: Dooley. Great bloodlines. Attorney. Worked for Saban. Very, VERY high character coach, and keeps his cards very close to his vest.

Add all that up...factor in a coaching staff who needs to find out "what they really have" before the Oregon game, and.....

Largely vanilla. Look for UT to simply try to out-muscle UTM. But...in the first half, expect to see Wilcox unhitch a couple of his blitz looks; a couple of deep passes to Moore and/or whoever ends up on the other side; and one or two plays with Gerald Jones in the G-Gun. Gotta find out if it works, even if against UTM.

Unless it's an absolute blowout from the start, we'll see a couple of trick plays and/or deep balls in the first half.

More things for Oregon to worry about.

Dooley won't show all his cards against UTM, but he will show a couple of looks that will give Oregon extra things to think about, and have to prepare for.

2nd half will be used to firm up the two-deep, and maybe find that diamond in the rough.

As "Dubya" used to say..."Strategery".....

This...my only fear is that we come out with less intensity and less of an understanding of what it will take to win against Oregon.

I think this team feels it has a lot to prove.... I see us bulldozing UT Martin by shear force and athleticism.

It might not look pretty- but UT wins big here.

I can easily imagine him giving UT Martin some looks that he has no earthly intention of using later against Oregon, just to cause them to waste some time preparing for things we'll never do. I'd expect this to be limited, but it's an old coaching trick that is most effective when used by a new staff with a young team. There's not 15 years worth of film to predict tendencies with, etc.

Now, not to oversell this. I'd expect him to be fairly basic, but to do enough to feel like the team can improve on the things that we'll have to do well to beat Oregon. Then mix in some subterfuge to knock the edge off of Oregon's preparation efficiency.

Is possible that he'll forgo anything like that based on the idea that we need all the practice we can get doing the basic things that we're not good enough at yet. I'd expect the starters to play a long, long time.

Think we'll see lots of the running game if the score gets out of hand and lots of base defense late, but lots of P-T by the guys you'll have to depend on against Oregon.

They won't know enough to be vanilla...CDD will most likely go all out as it will be more like a practice than anything and it will give his guys a chance to try some things...We are not going to surprise Oregon or Florida with anything we do so just play the game the way you should...All out :clapping:

What I've been told is, don't be too shocked if really vanilla most of year while young, inexperienced offensive line learns to play at this level. was told, "don't expect any fancy play calling".

i hope you're right but that feeling you have just might be bad gas rollin' around in there.

Of course we'll be vanilla in the first game....its Ut martin. We willrun it down their throats and put up as many points as we want w/out testing our qb's
