Will TN be able to recruit

And you Fulmer fans need to get a brain. Yeah, he gave us a national championship. And I am grateful for that. But what happened after that? A legacy of making excuses. So stop ask us in joining you in kissing his butt. Cause it ain't gonna happen.

So other than Saban, give me an example of an SEC coach who did better. Spurrier? Ed O? Gene Chizik? Urban Meyer? Some of those guys got canned or quit 2 years after the NC.

This. Period. We can’t cheat right now- and there was a nothing we can do until NCAA is finished.
The sooner people accept this, the more content in life they will be.
It sucks as a fan, you want to have competitive teams- but that’s not going to happen for a good while.

I think this is not as big of a roadblock as most think. Two factors, all the cheaters are gone players and coaches, and with the NIL the proceeds to players which have secretly been going on forever with a wink and a nod. Now if you go through the documentation correctly it's permitted.
I think if Hooker comes back the team will flourish and the recruiting will go up and offensive players from other teams will portal just to play in this exciting Offense. Think Hueple will be able to pick experienced players that fit his system from Portal. I think the sanctions will not amount to much, we have already been punished with close to 30 defections which led the nation and the aforementioned 2 factors.

There's another potential advantage we have with Heupel in recruiting: his coaching personality is quite the opposite from Saban.

Heupel is an encourager. He draws the best out of players. Saban is more old school, demanding the best out of players. There will always be superior athletes who respond better to one over the other.

The second phase of building the culture is recruiting guys who build on what's been established. The base we have right now is high in character and very relationship oriented. We may not seem as attractive to guys who are individually goal oriented--and neither will some of our position coaches be as eager to bring them into our family.

I'd say, regrettably, the demographics favor us.

It's interesting that you could make similar observations about Kellie Harper coaching the Lady Vols. You have the insistence on execution and work ethic from Pat's days, but being communicated in a style and emotional language more suited to the norms this generation has grown up with.

Very well thought out comment. I agree. Thank you! Go Vols!

Give me another example of an ex HC who became an AD, and put their school into this kind of a mess?

I give him credit for what he did as a coach. But as an AD? He deserves ZERO positive adulation.

I don't see anybody calling for adulation for CPF in that role, but rather acknowledging the hire he made in required haste was terrible, and it has damaged the bell cow of the department, but also acknowledge a lot of the lessor hires in the department made decisions that had most of the other programs were better the day he left then they were day he took over.

What would trendlines for....
Both Basketball programs look like?
How about Baseball?
How about Soccer?
How about Volleyball?
How about swimming?
How about Tennis?
How about Track?
Not sure about golf.
Softball is for sure debatable between flat or down. Hard to pull the plug on coaches with their record.

As I have said before, this was recently validated by the Danny White very public massive resigning of coaches presser.

Like every AD he owns them all and the impact of each program is weighted and football is king. He knew that too, thus his departure with the good wishes of his bosses. Does anybody think they would have had him at the table if his actions were suspect? None of his failures involved his lack of character, but lack of judgement. I don't think anybody could have been as pained about the Pruitt hire as he was, it cost him the opportunity he sought to ride out of town on the white horse that he desired after being let go as the HC. You could see that on his face or hear it in his voice. He has and will remain out of the limelight until the NCAA finishes with the Pruitt and friends investigation and his proximity to the bad acts are established publicly. He will not ask his old bosses or the new regime to take any risk by association. Until loyal and respected VFL staffers or players, that would surely have better inside info than most, abandon him, I will not either.

Though both tenures ended badly, his overall plus minus numbers in both roles do not merit villain status. It is his vocal detractors that closely exhibit Pruitt character traits not CPF, often down to the grammar. He does not deserve to leave on that white horse, nor to be ridden out of town on a rail. There is a huge space in the middle. Public pot shots have ZERO value add to our program. Time to accentuate the positives we have with our new AD and new Football coach added to the rest and hope the trends remain positive.

Alabama and Georgia will own recruiting in the southeast for years. Everybody else will be taking their leftovers.

This is trueish but...
Dooley walked in after a class decimated with Kiffin defactors (I think only 2 of the original class ended their careers with UT)
Butch walked in after a class in which Dooley took no OL in an entire year

Not arguing that Heupel has it the hardest, but it shouldn't be a total excuse if he fails to recruit
They also had 85 players and no NCAA investigations looming

Can’t argue the results on the field but there are other programs that have recruited through NCAA investigations.

Like I said, CJH has it the hardest no doubt. But it can’t be a total excuse for recruiting. NCAA should be done soon, we will hopefully see results then.

Ya know I think about this a lot… and I’m not trying to poo poo on TN HS sports…. But of the 4* or 5* TN guys that the Vols DID NOT get…. Which ones really stand out as a major loss?

I mean do any really stick out? Like they had above average success somewhere else? The Clemson receiver….
I would say losing the number 1 recruit in the country stands out. We are losing our DL and needed him in the worst way. And the fact that's he in our backyard. I read week after week he was a UT lock. I also read wearing the black uniforms would "definitely" help recruiting. Has any of those we hosted signed? Still with the transfer portal we should be able to fill the slots we need.

Those two and Ohio St have spent between 2-4 million each yearly in payments by boosters in cash, cars, etc. Money buys the players, very simple. That amount will increase with NIL but cash and car deals off book will still be perferred because of income tax concerns.

Heupel walked into a bigger mess than Dooley and Botch combined. It’s not even close. Heupel gets a 100% free pass this year for recruiting.

Nolen is not a TN guy. And are you are that Garner actually wants him?

I have been looking at our recruiting pages and i have a Question. Why is it that we are only talking about 3* players. No i don't think that stars are the only thing that matters but even in our bad years we had a shot at a few 5* players and several (10 or more) 4* players.

I get where you're coming from, but I think Tennessee finishes with a good class
