So are we going to run the no huddle offense this year that Cut installed last year? Should we?

I'm sure we will run a no huddle towards the end of a close game sometime this year. I doubt we run the no huddle as a set like we did last year.

I would not run it the like we did last year. Only for a change of pace. Sometimes last year the Vols look more tired than the teams they were running it against.

i don't really remember it being an advantage for us last year. isn't the point of the n-h to run more plays a game and wear the defense down? it fools no one when your qb goes to the center, stands up and looks at the sidelines for 20 seconds. i think most defenders respected it, but it didn't fool anyone.

I don't know if our plan was to run more plays out of it, because we would run the clock down pretty low just about every time.

I think it was more of a "see what the defense is going to give us" deal instead of a hurry up.

new starting QB = no way UTK runs a no huddle. Does anyone know if Crompton will be wearing the playbook on his wrist?

It was to keep defensed from making substitutions. That tires them out. Moreso, it limits the schemes they can run.

good god its been too long since i watched a real football game. good points guys. now that you guys mention it, it is beneficial at certain times.

as far as us running it this year, didn't they say last year that crompton really struggled with learning the no huddle? isn't that why he never got a fair shot at competing for the job last year?

that is probably the main difference in Ainge and Crompton:
Ainge's abilities are limited but he's a smart guy so they tried to even the keel by outsmarting the defenses. Crompton otoh, has more confidence, his instincts are alot better, and he is a more versatile an athelete. sometimes his instincts cause him to throw picks, but a i'll take a solid mix of confidence, instinct, and atheleticism any day.

I think it unlikely, for reasons already mentioned re: Crompton.

So far, he has not shown himself to be the composed type you need to do it effectively.

From what Ive read in the paper he is having enough trouble just trying not to throw to many INT.

run, run, pass, punt can easily be sewn onto a sweatband. Kinda like the "live strong" thing.

Guess we should call and tell Phil that establishing a running game isn't the thing to do...we should probably call LSU, Georgia, Auburn, West Virginia, Michigan etc. as well.

Actually, the whole purpose of the West Coast offense that Clawson is suposed to be installing is to pass to set up the run. I expect slant, screen, run.

i think we'll run a little no huddle due to the shortened play clock, there'll be a few times where we might have to hurry a bit more

Ask Georgia if it gave them problems last year. They came out on the opening drive playing Nickel defense and we no huddled all the way down the field and rammed it down their throats and scored in part because they were playing too light to stop the run and couldn't substitute because we were snapping it so quickly.

Lots of powerful verbiage being used to describe the UGA game last year. Must be getting it bad down there with the preseason hype?

13 pts against Florida, 17 against Bama, and 14 against LSU... not to mention the scoreless droughts we had in the second half of our SEC games last season. When it came down to scoring points in the games that actually mattered, Cutcliffe, Ainge and the no huddle couldn't buy us any.

The hype was getting bad last week, but the off field problems and the injuries have brought people back down to earth.

I think Cut used the no huddle to cut down on delay of game penalties. Even if this was not a primary reason I think it had this effect.

I don't expect to see it any more than we did pre- '07.
