Will the 2025 Season be a BUST?

Adversity and chaos sometimes has a way of bringing out the best so we may be pleasantly surprised with how the team gels now that some people are gone.
Definitely, I could envision a 1985 (Daryll Dickey led) type of a season, where TRob went down and the team rallied around a stellar D and efficient offense. Don't expect SEC championship w/ today's gauntlet of SEC, but if we've got a good leadership group, I could see us doing better than expected. Next man up.

The Vols SHOULD be ok with the classes JH has pulled so far (8-4ish)

However, I don't think anyone expected this situation to happen, so it did throw a wrench into things.

JH hs said we will add a QB, whether it's a starter is yet to be determined.

I would be highly disappointed if we roll with one of our scholly QB's to start the year.
There's a rumor here in the midwest that Kenny Minchey from Notre Dame may be coming to Tennessee

I predict Bama takes a step back this year too. Georgia should be as good as ever. Florida should be better. I think we'll go 1-2 in those games and then lose a random game to go 9-3, which is nothing to complain about. Ofc I could also be completely wrong. Who knows
I think Bama may be taking a step forward this year from what little I've seen and reports I saw.
Guess we'll see

Yeah, if Bama takes ANOTHER step back, they will likely be coach searching in the offseason. Fans will be taking to the streets if they do worse this year vs. last year.

I think our record could be the same with or without Nico so whatever it's going to be... it's going to be

likely 8-4ish

I support what Heupel did and think it was in the best interest for the team and for College football.

Unfortunately, this late BAIL by Nico (Kiffin 2.0), could cause this season to be a bust. You basically flush the work from Spring practice on offense and start over from Square One.

Looking at the schedule, given the current QB situation, there are no lock wins (with the exception of the patsy games).

I hope people are patient this year and don’t start calling for heads to roll if this season goes bust. We could take a big step back this year.
Team Nico ( a.k.a. Daddy) thought he would put TN in a bad spot by letting his mediocre son go through Spring Practice and then holdout for more $$. The joke was on him. Good riddance to the whole Fam Damily. GBO!!

The fact of the matter is that we don't know what 2025 brings. How many of us thought Hendon would usher in a fantastic year. We are edging closer to being a SEC powerhouse. Depending on the development of our 2 scholarship quarterbacks and the portal QB we could still surprise. As a former track coach you simply cannot tolerate meddling parents. They are a cancer and never work out well ala Todd Marinovich!

No. Next year's team can beat anybody on the schedule. There's also 5-6 teams capable of beating us. 9-3, 10-2.

Agree. We caught some breaks last year w/ UF and OK being "off". Compared to others in SEC, we have a manageable schedule, but if UF and OK now have their QBs, we'll have a tougher time of it. If our D resembles LY, and you have to figure our rushing attack will be good, along with better WR talent, I'm not sure there will be too much fall off from Nico level of play LY. If we have a competent "game manager" at minimum, I'd expect a 8-4ish type season, w/ higher probability of being 7-5 than 9-3.
UF has been off for years now, guess Florida caught breaks all them years we were off. We’ve beat Florida and Bama 2 out of the last 3 years, was Bama off too? Sorry I hate it when people use that term win we beat a big school. You are who you are each year, off on whatever. A win is a win and a loss is a loss. Off Oklahoma beat Bama, bottom line everybody has to be ready every Saturday. Don’t devalue a teams win by saying the other team was off. They were who the were, the loser. GBO

I don't think letting Yeah-I'mma-leave-ya skulk off into the sunset is a harbinger of a "down" season. He didn't impress against conference opponents, for the most part. I believe the Vols have the tools to put together an 8 or 9 win season, plus a bowl appearance, and that's not a bust in my inconsequential opinion. Missing a bowl game would be, but that's highly unlikely.

I pretty much agree with you. Personally, I see 8-4 as way to optimistic given where we are today. No matter how we cut it, even if we get somebody for QB from the portal or start Merk, we're getting a second tier player to start which means table scraps at QB. Merk may or GMAC may take it and run with it but through spring ball they were second tier compared to our previous starter.

Agree...Not devaluing any win in the SEC. You take a W any way you can get it...just my opinion that UF and OK will be tougher wins this year.

They may, Oklahoma has seemed to upgrade on offense a little. Don’t know about Florida, but a lot hinges on how their quarterback play is or isn’t.

Issue isn't necessarily Nico but other players we have been losing since December. News is out that Slaughter is leaving and possibly Boo Carter. We can't hold onto a team.

Looks like Peyton Lewis will have a shot at breaking Sampson's season rushing record, sooner rather than later.

CJH will run the ball. A LOT.

The cool thing about practice a lot of people don’t know is that the whole team practices not only the starting QB. He doesnt take the field by himself. Who knew?

Coach said it clearly Saturday morning - ‘ teams have players get hurt in late August every year, you adjust”. This is no different. The same people scared we fall flat in 2025 were the same ones telling everyone yesterday that today we would lose all our starters to the portal. I haven’t read every thread today but I haven’t seen any of that today. None at all.

No one is bigger than the Power T We will be fine. Stop all that. Please.
