Will Rain Hurt or Help?

Looks like it is going to be raining this Saturday in The Swamp. At first I figured this played into their favor because we are the pass heavy team for once in this rivalry and the rain will make it tougher to bomb away all day long. However, when you think about it, the rain will make it much more difficult for the O-Line to get the footing to get the necessary push for a good day on the ground. Plus, it will keep their little smurfs from making those quick cuts that always kill us. What do you guys think?

Works both ways.....good and bad....anything can happen due to inclement weather conditions. It's a wash.......Bring out the longer cleats.......there are two teams that have to play in these conditions...not one. So it is a wash....Unless it only rains when Tennessee has the ball....That would be GOD's will....He will be at the Game but does not have any money on the line.....

I'm not allowed to post what went through my head when I noticed it was going to be raining.

We are a passing team, they are a running team. Rain will hurt the passing team more, might not hurt them much, but it will show up on a couple plays.

Rain slows down faster teams. Bray and the boys showed they can make passes in the rain at the beginning of the Montana game. I think the rain will hurt the scat backs of UF more than it will hurt UT's passing game.

This....and it will hurt the passing game more when the passes really need to be thrown hard into tight spots. The deep balls are not as much of a concern as he can hang the ball up and let the big guys go and get it!

A fast true Freshman guarding a WR 6" taller and just as fast where he has to react and cut on a wet field? Our guys can plant their foot and balance themselves in anticipation of a cut... having to react without your weight balanced can lead to footing issues.

That's an advantage to us.



Wet field also lessens the speed gap between Rainey/Demps and our Defense.

Anytime you are the underdogs and there is a factor out of the ordinary thrown in the mix, it helps your chances

It works both ways. Can't see where it really hurts either unless they play hot potato with the ball.

NOAA says 30% chance of storms during the day decreasing to 20% at night.

Why on earth are people so panicky? Have you ever played the game? Played in rain? Snow? Cold? Heat?

Bad weather hurts the team that has not prepared for it and allows it to effect them mentally. Additionally, I suspect UF's field drains as well as UT's. Unless it rains a LOT more than the worse prediction... rain won't be a deciding factor.

It rains on both sides of the field. Around 90 degrees with 50% humidity, and a 30-40% chance of isolated showers during the game. Sounds like great football weather to me.

i have lived in florida most my life one thing i do kno about this weather is that it wont last long.. it wont be a problem

Rain hurts agility. Florida's guys depend heavily on being quick. Makes it hard to get out of the way of big hits too!

Rain often times takes much of the Crowd out of the game... hard to cheer and make noise for your team if you are trying to keep your head dry..

Help. It will negate any speed advantage. Since our passing attack is based on timing, it will also make covering our receivers that much more difficult. More big plays for the VOLS!

If its not a monsoon. it is not a problem. if it is it is not a problem....The OP talks like a heavy rain....the last game I went to and it rained the entire game was Auburn. in 94 or 95.

Chances are 50% to 80% that it will not rain at all....LOL

IF there is an impact from rain, it should be in the vols favor unless the Gator's offensive plan is different than expected; then the rain could be just a wash..:)

it will the hurt the pass game more then our speed imo

unless the field is really tore up i dont see it affecting their speed

I doubt it rains. The local station here in Gainesville is saying 30% chance with a high of 88. They are the most accurate. Honestly, the smoke might be more of a problem, but it just depends on which way the wind blows. It's 90 today and it feels pretty good and I live 30 mins west of Gainesville.

I also remember Dooley recently praising the new practice fields because they were allowing for important wet ball work. We should be fine. The other team plays in the rain as well.
