Will Pruitt have the toughest opener as a Tennessee coach ever?

Let's point out a positive here. At least our team is not afraid to schedule a tough OOC game early in the season. Remember before Florida played (and lost) Michigan last season for their opener they had not opened a season away from home since 1987. They hadn't played a power-conference team in a season opener since 1992. And worst of all the Gators hadn’t traveled out of Florida for a non-conference game since 1991. At least we have the stones to play tough OOC opponents every year.

What about the year we played Oregon and Mariota was that an opener.

We played Oregon in 2010, and 2013.

In 2010, Dooley's first season as head coach, the Oregon game was Week 2, after the UT-Martin match.

In 2013, Butch's first season, the Oregon game was Week 3, after Austin Peay and Western Kentucky. This was the year Mariota played for the Ducks.

What?? did they change the schedule and we all of a sudden open against Alabama?

We are playing a 7-6 team on a three game losing streak!!!!

The only thing I meant here was that get the players ready, have a game plan, and go out and play. The article is the one asking this.:good!:

Not the toughest ever but maybe challenging game considering the state of the team.

CJP has a very tough job in general and it's part of the reason why I predict he won't make it here. GA is stout. FL hired a proven winner. Muschamp seems to be figuring out the offensive side of football. Bama
.... Well nothing needs to be said. If Pruitt wins here he will have accomplished a major feat in my opinion. But, his task is brutal. He will be tried by maybe the hottest fire any coach in UT history has ever been tried by.

Why do so many people have high expectations for SC? They've lost four years in a row to Kentucky.

WVU- no defense, explosive offense

US- no defense, no offense, new staff

Anything can happen, but I don't see us keeping it within 14.

I think the subject is career openers...the first game of a new head coach's Tennessee tenure.

This '72 Penn State game, while a cool one and our first home night game, was the 2nd game of the season (we played Ga Tech a week earlier, in Atlanta), in Bill Battle's 3rd season. So it pretty much doesn't qualify for the discussion.

But still, a cool game!

Coach Johnny Majors went down to Athens and got spanked 44-0 in 1981.

Not sure if that was first game of year.

Definitely not Johnny's first game as coach.

Don't really meet the rules, but hey...a little Herschel Walker leaves a memory
