Will Power5 schools refuse to schedule JState?

What would that prove?

If Deion calls and wants to play UT, then Danny White should talk to them (publicity is good), but it wouldn't prove a thing to score 70+ on them. They lost to ULM, for crying out loud. They're a middling FCS team that added a five-star defensive back, which makes them a middling FCS team with a lightning rod for everyone they play against. Any team in the SEC except for Vandy would stomp a mudhole in Jackson State.
That's why we won't do it. Doesn't prove anything.

This whole thing reminds me of a recruiting.event in the mid to late 1990s. On NSD the Vols reportedly signed a 4 or 5* RB. But later the papers corrected the destination bc the RB signed with UTC instead. Press could believe it true, so they wrote UT. Does anyone remember that RB or the signing?

They haven’t played a Power 5 school in the last four seasons. So not sure this plan would have any effect

Also not sure why people are acting like the sky is falling cause a kid is going to Jackson State. I love that the dude is forging his own path, and I love Florida State losing a commit to an FCS school coached by a former player

We should all be totally fine with what’s going on at FSU. The “historic program that is now a dumpster fire” narrative that has plagued us for a decade is finally starting to shift away from us and towards FSU. Let’s not be mad about it.

We shouldn’t be scared to play anybody. Who do we owe payback for, outside of our conference?

Actually, I'd be just fine with if the "dumpster fire" shifted away from the Noles to another school that's about 150 miles down the road from them...they made a lot of "progress" toward that this season.

If we're ever concerned with having to beat Florida State again, that means we're probably both back. As for that other school, they deserve to suck for a while.

Well, first of all, no Power 5 schools played Jackson State this season. They only played one FBS team, ULM, and that was their only loss of the season. One five-star recruit might catch them up to ULM, a 4-8 team from a Group of 5 conference, but it hardly makes them a threat to any big boys. The last time before 2021 that they played an FBS team was Southern Mississippi, who crushed them in 2018.

And why should Power 5 conferences try a power play against FCS teams to keep them from recruiting better players? That's just stupid. Honestly, if you're a power 5 conference team and a five-star signs with Jackson State instead of a Power 5 school, that's a good thing for you--you will never play Jackson State anyway, so that player will never be a problem for you.

Top-notch recruits have signed with HBCUs before, although it was rare. Eddie Robinson and Doug Williams used to get them occasionally at Grambling. Deion pulled it off because he's Deion. If he stays at JSU, he will get one here and there. But it won't make any real difference. Most kids are going to go for the big-time if they can. This is just the football version of when Adonal Foyle spurned Coach K to play for Colgate.
Travis Hunter has very little in common with Academic All American Adonal Foyle. Different motives... different sports, different eras. Very different backgrounds.

They were 11-1 this year. Hardly a "middling FCS team". He has them moving quickly.

BYU - all of the bad losses from the Beldar era
Wasn't a bad loss. We were small favorites and their QB went 1st round. They were underestimated is what they were. Many Vol fans didn't want to hear they were veteran and pretty decent. Just "we're SEC and they not". Though yeah we shoulda won haha

Hear me out. If you want to makes sure this doesn't become a trend of losing elite athletes to small schools over NIL like this why not just everyone agree not to schedule them. Just play hard ball and this will go away. Plus I have a feeling large NIL deals will start to fizzle out as people get burned with bust.
Wouldn’t beating them be a better argument? Anybody who participates in collusion like this is an AFP.

Just Cap NIL @ 50,000 per player per year. Awarded at end of the year, if player is in good standing and has fulfilled his obligations as a student and athlete....
If players can get the same deal at every School then so be it....Takes the money out of the game and brings it back to a level playing field.
I like the cap idea but that amount would cause Bama players to take a pay cut.

I know a lot of unqualified people making big boy salaries at companies. If someone is willing to pay them, not the kids’ fault.

LOL Congress is over paid also so your point is moot. Apples to Cantaloupes

Are you a go alang type? Well, the Jones are doing it so that makes it right?.

We are talking about leveling the playing field in recruiting not it's ok to pay an unproven next level athlete because he has potential before they prove it.

This type thinking is what has screwed the true intent of NIL and screwed the recruiting process up.

I don't think that is as easy as it sounds. The NIL ruling implies that universities and the NCAA cannot deny someone's right to earn money from his or her name, image or likeness. Setting a cap is really just a different version of denying them altogether.
Setting a Cap @ 50,000 per year would be reasonable. Ensuring that the School, the NCAA and the University does not get any of that Money for just their presence in the player's current status is the purpose. Everything Earned off of NIL above $50,000 could be placed in the player's account and given to player on his departure from the school. Never going into the university, the NCAA, or anybody.

What happens and what are the long term affects of a bust or on the team's players not receiving any NIL money. For example, the OT that Blocks for that 1 Million Dollar player receives no NIL pay? Seriously we are paying a player of which may pan out but may not. Its a team sport. Don't mind NIL at all but it needs to be restricted to team and not individuals.

Why don’t we worry about schools in our footprint? If this kid walks away from football after his freshman year as a millionaire I don’t know what it matters to anyone.
And yes, I know that geographically JSU is in our footprint, but they are an FCS school. Everyone is trying to figure out the NIL. The blood is in the water and there’s a feeding frenzy. Those that are creative and smart enough should be taking advantage of it. People are either victims or survivors. Victims are too busy pointing their fingers while survivors are focused on a goal.

Not worried about JSU or FSU. Just a great example of what can happen. Before it is over Both Schools will be Victims of this move. So why recruit just get 25 million in donations every recruiting cycle and and recruit those 25 positions of need and fit. 1 million per player. Simple.

I think I remember hearing Terrell Owens say in an interview that he thought he had signed with UTK, when in fact it was UTC.

What's wrong with "small schools"? This could be read a few different ways. Are you saying "small schools" such as a Georgia St, UNC Charlotte, Florida Atlantic University, or you referring to "small schools as in HBCU? Cause there is a big difference on the direction of the statement. Bottom line is going to a "small school" doesnt have a negative affect on getting draft, which we all know. He's going to be groomed by arguably the best lock down corner, and one of the best over all atheletes in sports. What's the NIL deal that he got? Like Deon said, "we don't have no money". It doesn't have to be the money cause that will come. Maybe he doesn't feel he has anything to prove. Maybe he just prefers the HBCU experience. I'd hope you feel like that is acceptable decision.

Now, yes. But what if this stated a trend of the best HS players going to the HCBU? How long would it be before those schools started beating the big boys? That's how Coach Rupp had to feel when those boys from that little west Texas university gave him a whopping in the NC game.
