Will Power5 schools refuse to schedule JState?

Hear me out. If you want to makes sure this doesn't become a trend of losing elite athletes to small schools over NIL like this why not just everyone agree not to schedule them. Just play hard ball and this will go away. Plus I have a feeling large NIL deals will start to fizzle out as people get burned with bust.
I’m more worried about constipation this morning

Dude, the kid will play one year, take his money, and then transfer to a P5 school. This is nothing more than a publicity stunt that Deion pulled to expose FSU's NIL incompetence. They'll adjust and wont let something like this happen again.

JSU worked out for Walter Payton.

That Deion will take this kid to FSU after they fire Norvell feels like a likely scenario!

I don't think that is as easy as it sounds. The NIL ruling implies that universities and the NCAA cannot deny someone's right to earn money from his or her name, image or likeness. Setting a cap is really just a different version of denying them altogether.
It is a reasonable solution instead of giving a HS player with little formal training with a few exceptions a 7 figure paycheck to squander as he wants.

What's more, their image is here today based on HS Stats maybe gone tomorrow based on the level of competition.

So you think it is ok to pay a HS kid a Pro Salary?

Before the Nil is paid the kid needs to establish himself that he is worthy of it and has a Name Image and Likeness from other than a Recruiting Service.

Texas OL deal is a violation of NIL, don't you think?

I'm wondering if all these NIL deals actually involve requiring some sort of service on the athlete's part (commercials, autograph signings, billboards, etc) or are we now just giving money away to athletes with no obligation just to get them here?

I think it is ok to pay the kid for his NIL whatever he is able to be paid. I don't think anyone is going to be able to justify a cap. Probably pretty illegal.

This NIL thing is a perfect example of he literal meaning of WTF. I've read numerous articles and dozens of threads about it. The lowest common denominator is that no one knows WTF it's going to lead to or ultimately what its affect on the game will be.

I agree you cannot cap an individual's earnings, but you can establish a NIL cap for the institutions. Just like salary cap in NFL. I also believe the NCAA could require those with NIL deals to enter a draft like lottery to see where they play in order to insure the money is not linked to an institution but the player's marketability.

Gosh, ppl are so damn mad about adult athletes making money off their own ability.

You’d think that this would be a positive compared the multitude of negative alternatives this kid or any young man could choose. I am happy these kids are working hard, doing what they love and making money at it. It’s about time someone other than the 1% got a share of this billion dollar industry.

It isn't about what I think. It's about the implications of the rulings regarding NIL. What has been established is that athletes have a right to earn from their popularity, and the NCAA, conferences, or institutions cannot prohibit it. If the NCAA, conferences, or institutions cannot prohibit it, which they did prior to the change, by what authority can they limit it?

While the kid can make his own decision, I can only imagine that after the headlines fade and the noise surrounding the decision dies down he’ll be lying in bed at night scared shitless thinking, “what the hell have I done?”

I hope it works out for him I guess but it just seems like a bad idea.

Whatever though. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I know a lot of unqualified people making big boy salaries at companies. If someone is willing to pay them, not the kids’ fault.

Wait..me next....I love this conspiracy $hit.....how about the best player in the class goes to a school coach who is coached by arguably the best who's ever played the same position He does ?! That he could quite possibly teach Him a thing or two about the position ?! And to top it off, he'll be attending an HBCU.

What in god's name are you talking about?

1) Do you have even the slightest bit of evidence for this?

2) NiL is legal...so then why does that even matter?

3) The kid himself said he chose JSU to light a torch and a path for others to an HBCU. Just like Deion has been doing.

You just come off as mad and entitled..."WE, the Power 5, deserve the best players!!" 😅

Yay...or maybe nay. The NCAA seems to think (correctly) they cannot do so. But that conferences or universities directly could. Personally, I don't see it. I don't see how any entity can limit how much you make on your own time IF you are not that individual's employer (such as restrictions against moonlighting).

They'll have to accept these kids are their employees...and pay for it 😅

Michael Strahan also played for Texas Southern. He has always been very public in his support of HBCUs. In the 1960s and 70s, HBCUs sent a lot of players to the NFL. Peyton is a big time NFL history buff. I suspect that contributed in part to Peyton's decision to make a large donation to HBCU schools.

Peyton Manning SCORES BIG with Recent Donation to Fund HBCU Scholarships

No reason for anyone to get all pissy about a blue chip going to a HBCU.

Sanders is using his platform as a coach and luring players in through NIL to land a Power 5 job. He’ll be at FSU at the earliest this time next year. FSU will pay the buyout for Norvell and Sanders will doing what he’s doing now but on the biggest stage. He’ll get players but it won’t translate to wins and he’ll be out in 3-4 years too

Heard Coach Prime say this week, he passed up a few big jobs this year. He wants to change lives in HBCUs. I don't doubt it.

He didn’t turn down any he wants. Meaning FSU or a team with deep pockets, deep recruiting base deep and instant success to win.

The Vols schedule Jackson State and we are putting 70+ up on the board. Anyone wanna take a bet?
What would that prove?

If Deion calls and wants to play UT, then Danny White should talk to them (publicity is good), but it wouldn't prove a thing to score 70+ on them. They lost to ULM, for crying out loud. They're a middling FCS team that added a five-star defensive back, which makes them a middling FCS team with a lightning rod for everyone they play against. Any team in the SEC except for Vandy would stomp a mudhole in Jackson State.
