Does anyone here, other than myself....believe that our players will start trying to police themselves a bit more, at this point?? I know that it's hard to hold the players accountable for other players actions, almost near impossible, but will we see this start happening more than it currently is?? I'm pretty sure that there is nothing that teammates in leadership roles hate seeing more than selfish players ruining things for everyone. Especially results on the football field, which is what this incident will cause this year. Losing Myles at S is HUGE.

I sure hope so. I do think it will make some of the younger ones a little fearful, but like someone else pointed out these players get thrust into the spotlight where they are treated like "VIP" everywhere, with people asking for their autograph, at 18 that would be hard for anyone to stay grounded.

That does not mean I think that what happened is ok by any means. Just making an observation.
I do think Dooley should and will lay down stricter rules until the athletes show they can be trusted.

My point being, this is what "true" leadership does. They police themselves and keep order, so outside parties won't have to, partly leading to what happened last night.

Or there will be a big rift in the football team that will be beyond repair by the time practice starts.... This is the time when we need some senior leadership, unfortunately they seem to be spending their time in an ansel adams painting (sorry, had to) :)

It is really hard to cheer on people that beat cops and rape cousins.

It really shows how crazy of fans we really are in TN.

No matter what we just can't stop cheering on the Vols.

Oh well, I hope things starting looking better tomorrow but right now I am still bummed out. It seems like only yesterday we were robbing pilot.

Yeah. I agree with you. I think the older more responsible players will start policing for lack of a better word.

That's one of those things that sounds good, but I'm afraid the law of large numbers will always catch up at some point. In any group of 100 18-22 year olds there are at least a few idiots.

I agree, I would hope though that there are certain "regulators" on the team that can help put fear in them if they screw up. Just saying.

You have to also take in to account that there are some folks out there that actively look for these kids to start situations. They come to provoke players into situations that will land them in trouble. There are some that want to just prove their manhood to their buddies or girls. They may be jealous, lacking in their own self worth. If we had a player that was trully sucker punched, then I rest my case!

It happened on more than one occasion when I was there in the 70's. So I sure it hasn't changed that much.

Now the aftermath of the fight when it left the building is another story.

I listened to fred and terry's show this afternoon and they were amazed that a freshman would be involved in this ... they said that the older players were the law when they were here ..

It's one of those things that we can just hope will work. And in the end that's where the coaches come into play. Besides EVERYONE does dumb things when they are 18-22 that they regret. It's part of growing up, and I'm hoping that with the older players AND coaches they can at least stay out of jail?...please? :crossfingers:

Agreed. You have to wonder what the mindset of these kids are really. When I was younger, if I did things wrong, I tried to make sure I did in a way I didn't get caught or in trouble.

Fall practice starts in a month. If they haven't stepped up by now, then not sure if they will.... The Seniors might be as good of leaders as the 2005 seniors.

when i played highschool football (not to be compared with college) we went out as group we ate together partied together and fought together, if you messed with one of us you messed with all of us. i know none of them should have fought but we all know cops (macho effers) i don't doubt the cop was running his mouth... i do hope that since we know there are people out there who are just jealous of where you are (made it out of highschool football) will cause jealous remarks... i hope our leaders will be there to step in and let eachother know there is a greater design for eachother and steer each other from doing things they will regret

I just don't think the obvious candidates: Reveiz, Walker, etc have the respect of the football team as a whole, or at least not to the degree that they are able to demand respect when it comes to setting a team-wide curfew, etc like the players did in 2006 I think it was (the 2006 team is why Jayson Swain will always be one of my favorite vols)

I personally would have liked to see everyone stay on the team. After a couple of years with DD, maybe they could all make the changes they need. If kicking trouble makers off the team is the way you want to approach it, a lot of players may not be interested in coming here in the first place. If you can show that players are better people when they leave UT than when they arrived, maybe it would really show more about what DD is about. JMO either way , doesnt really bother me.

Do I want to see it happen? Yes, you bet your bottom dollar I do. Do I think it will happen? Not really. They're kids they're going to do what they want to do if it sounds fun to them and they think they can get away with it. I do think that Dooley took a big step in the right direction with his actions today though as far as Myles goes. Everybody deserves a 2nd chance in certain circumstances and Myles got his and messed up again.

This is when the true leaders come to the front of the pack and get the team together and rally. That being said, I wish, just like the rest of you guys that these guys would use their brain. If I had the opportunity they had in front of them, I think I could keep my nose clean. I guess IMO, this is when we'll find out just how much "charcter" this team has since Coach Dooley is putting such an emphasis on it.

Go Vols
