Honestly, if Pearl stays at UT forever he may win 20 SEC champ, a few NC and numerous final 4's.

can you imagine....................

Who knows how long Pearl will remain in Knoxville, I would like him to take us beyond the Sweet Sixteen first.

I really cannot see CBP leaving Tennessee. He has built the program basically from ground up from the Buzz era and taken the program to championship status. He is known as the guy who took Tennessee to the next level, and his name could be with the likes of Coach K and Duke. I cannot see Pearl leaving, and if he ever did, I would be more than devastated.

Knight will coach again. No way he lets Coach K break his record without a fight. He's going to spend some time hunting and come back at some mid-major outpost in time for the 2009-10 season.

He doesn't have a record, Coach Summitt does...

Tennessee is 4th in the country and is going to play the number one team in 8 days and may move up to #1 if we win that game. Take that fact coupled with the fact we have the best talent on the bench we have probably ever had and I would say that coaching the UT Men's BB team is a VERY cushy job right now. Why would a coach leave to go be part of the mess up in Indiana right now?? Very simple answer, he wouldn't.

Even though these are allegations, I don't think Sampson makes it past this season. Pearl, and for that matter any other coach, might not want any part of a program that may end up having serious sanctions levied against them.

In the eyes of the NCAA and roughly 99 percent of college basketball fans, he does.

Harry Statham of NAIA McKendree College has more wins (958 as of today) than Knight, too, but it's not the same thing.

I'd say a coach proving himself to be a liar, a scumbag, and a recidivist cheater is more than "a couple of things going awry." Kelvin Sampson should have already been fired.

They knew this when they were getting him. I thoroughly believe they wanted a liar and cheater, but just one who didn't get caught, there would be no other explination. At Oklahoma he was constantly under investigation, and cheating was the way he found success. Did they think the high expectations at IU would allow him to go about doing business in a clean manner that he knew nothing of. They never should have hired him in the first place, but he is a guy that has had success and IU went for him.

I really don't know where they go from here, but they wont be going the assistant route like they did with Mike Davis. Keep in mind this is one of the premiere jobs in college basketball. I'd like to think Bruce wouldn't be interested, but I think he would entertain the idea if it arose. It'd be the only BIG10 school he would think seriously about, and frankly I couldn't blame him. I don't think they go with a guy that has had mid-major success, unless maybe Lickliter stayed at Butler and had the season they're having, if that were the case he may have been the guy. I don't know if they can stay within the "family". Steve Alford really messed up by not going after the job when Knight left, looks like he ruined his opportunity at his dream job. Dane Fife is too young and inexperienced and Dan Dakich proved at BGSU he can't win as a head coach. Randy Wittman could be a possibility though, but he has had no coaching experience in the collegiate game.

hat, I'm thinking Scott Drew here. Strong ties to the state of Indiana from his time at Valpo and his playing days at Butler. Relatively young at 38, and has turned things around at a program that, well, was in as bad a shape as any in country at that time. I think they'll look at Tom Crean, again, but he'll stay, again.

My uncle lives in Jasper, Indiana. He said as of yesterday that there are rumors that CBP is on their short list of possible coaching candidates. He also said that there is a huge support to bring back Bobby Knight. I think CBP stays here. That is going to be a huge mess to deal with when all is said and done.

Isn't it likely Indiana will be put on some type of probation, or sanctions? Why would BP want to walk into a situation where he is hamstrung?

I will be deeply, deeply saddened if he leaves... other than Ray Mears, Pearl has been the only guy who has been able to make Tennessee basketball relevant.

UT's going to have to come up with a lot more cash to keep Pearl---$3-$4 mil with a huge buyout will lock him up at UT for years.

I say give the man a blank check. I don't believe he would ask for me than he actually deserves. If anyone hires BP away from UT for political or financial reasons then they can go ahead and take Hamilton as well because this fanbase will have no use for him.

I have heard from a very reliable person, that if Pearl leaves, Bobby Knight would definitley be interested in coaching the VOLS...very interesting :good!:

There's a better chance of John Wooden coaching at UT than there is of Bob Knight becoming the head basketball coach.
