I think the way to go forward is to get an offensive guy who's not afraid to sling the ball all over the field. The SEC is already a defensive league geared mostly on all the teams to stopping the run. Over the last 20 years, high passing offenses have dominated in league play (Spurrier at FL, Meyer at FL,.... ect.). Head coached that come from defensive coordinator spots historically have a difficult time fielding a potent offense based on the fact recruits see the offense in the system as an afterthought and less in the coaches mind. It has been shown that offensive coordinators that go on to be head coaches can hire a defensive coordinator with little to no defensive performance drop-off comparable to that seen with the drop-off at the offensive coordinator position. Winning games requires scoring points, more points that your opponent , not shutting out your opponent, a 0-0 tie is no good, and a 60-59 game is still a win, a great offense can always find holes in a great defense. While I do like what Muschamp has done in his career, I don't like him as a fit for Tennessee to build upon for the future. We already have a capable defense, its our offense that needs an overhaul. Personally, I would like to see a June Jones-type offense installed in the SEC. Its a scheme thats very difficult to stop when run properly and currently no team in the league can field a defensive backfield that would be capable of stopping a 5-wide set for 4 whole quarters. Also, by putting an offensive guy at the helm with a high-scoring scheme, you know that when you need points your offense can go get them. I think we need to get someone that hasn't ever been in the SEC, because the offenses in the SEC, maybe except for Florida, are very stale and have not changed since the early 1990s. We need a scheme that will exploit the obvious weakness of every team in the league, the defensive backfield. Thats my 2 cents, let me know what you think.

We don't need a June Jones or Mike Leach approach, but I am in favor of an offensive coach. Not "offensive" as in Fulmer, but a coach that knows something about the offensive side of the game.

We need to break open the California and florida recruiting markets more. That, or figure out a way to produce talent in Tennessee.

Considering there is no way to just 'produce talent', its not like farmers in Tennessee can stop planting cotton and tobacco and start planting rows of 'five-star recruits'. Tennessee is just not a high school football dominated state in the rural areas like Texas and is not 'urban' enough in the areas that are heavily populated, maybe except for the Memphis area. That leaves the only option which is to bring talent in from other states. With the resurgence of teams like Georgia and other teams in Florida, our normal hunting grounds are getting picked over. UT used to do well in Texas and Los Angeles, but UCLA will be on the upswing and with once puff-cake teams like texas tech and baylor are now getting serious looks by texas recruits. The new scholarship limit is more imposing than I once realized, with only around 20 scholarships for each team on average to give out each year the potential bust of a highly rated recruit can cause roster depth implications for 2-3 years should a player not pan out. I believe that we need to reestablish ourselves in the known hot-bed recruiting areas but i don't think that we have the right staff to get serious consideration from many recruits in those areas right now.

I would like Muschamp as HC. I think he would find someone to make the offense great, or actually let someone run it. Maybe Clawson if he has truly been held back by Fulmer (we know he's been held back by QB play).

Sorry Muschamp just isn't expeirienced enough. What has he done as a hc?

Nothing, but he has done plenty as a DC. Trust me, he's not going to take some small HC coach hoping to eventually move up. If we don't move in on him, somebody else will.

I am leaning towards muschamp as well. If we don't get him someone else will and I think we will be sorry.

yeah, look, why not take someone who has expeirience as a hc (peterson, mendenhall, kiffin, etc.) instead of someone who's never been. That's a huge risk were takin if we get muschamp

I would be very excited with a Muschamp hire and his lack of head coaching experience does not bother me a lick. The only downside I see with Muschamp is that the day will probably come when UGA will call for him and there's no telling if any amount of Vol love and money could make him stay in Knoxville.

This guy has an attitude too, he could put some of our boys in their place. Ol Jon Crompton would have had his A$$ handed to him and put on the bench. We need someone to come in here and take charge, we all know CPF isnt getting it done.

Feldman threw Muschamp's name out there. I found this by way of, everyone's friend Roy Adams, but just saying. His name is getting thrown around along with Kiffin in the national spotlight.
