3* 2017 TX Qb commits to Vols. For 6 months he was a Tiger High commit, but he flipped to TN following his Sunday visit to Knoxville.

He threw 23 TDs and only 4 ints this past year in class 6A.

I am not impressed with his offer list, but I have no reason to question Butch's recruiting.

He is not a bad flip late...we needed a QB because there is a chance that the loser of the QB battle transfers

Welcome to UT young man.

How are the numbers working now? If we are still in the mix for Akers, it seems we are running out of room, even with a the recent decommits.

If you watch the kid's highlight's, he seems to be pretty good at passing with defensive linemen in his face....

I watched some film on this young man, he is very good, rocket arm. He is a steal in my opinion... Welcome

Agreed. People has to remember that

1. It's hard for every kid to be officially ranked correctly because of so many and

2. Butch is good at finding the talent flying under the radar.

We flipped 3* recruits from Miss St and Memphis this week. This is not the kind of finish everyone's hoping for.

I know this is the exception rather than the norm but Memphis signed a 3* q.b. who ended up being the Denver Bronco's first round draft pick last season.
The problem is NOT that he is a 3*. The problem is that bUTch sees that he has the skill set to be good BUT bUTch doesn't have a q.b. coach who can develop him in to a 5*....
Plenty of college coaches can take a 3* with skills and coach them up but bUTch can't do that. THe closest thing he has done is make Mosley gain weight and play in the secondary. Mosley is a decent player but he is not developed to what we had hoped he would be.

Really? He's had plenty of high profile busts (so far) & a couple overachieving 3*'s. I wouldn't exactly say he's a proven talent identifier.

Going to reiterate something I've heard but think needs to be said again:

Give this class some time. It is in some respects a disappointing class in that we missed out on some big targets, but Butch & co. have done a reasonable job at finding and bringing in talent. I think that this class will be fine if we make some of the changes we need on our staff (QB, OL/OC, DB, S&C) and give them time to develop. This off-season is very important for the development of this football program.

All you gotta do is watch this kids video's and how well he speaks. He is very athletic and a very strong arm..And is a tireless worker and very impressive to hear him talk. EE that will get his shot to compete..Watch for this kid

nothing against Will Mcbride, but "no reason to knock Butch's recruiting"....seriously?

Great pick up by Butch.

Likely he'll be 4th string next season, but the real reason we needed a solid QB in this class is if JG wins the QB competition, it likely means that either Dormady and / or S-Jones will transfer and we may find ourselves stuck with a thin depth chart at QB in 2018. McBride has a lot of potential and could turn out to be a pretty good QB; he fits our system well. His highlight reel is pretty impressive. At worst, he's a very good backup; on the upside, he has the potential to be a starting SEC QB in the same vein as Dobbs.

As for the star-gazers, sorry but there was no chance we were getting a top 10 type QB this class. There's just too much QB talent on the roster already with JG, Dormady, and S-Jones.

P.S. Don't forget that Josh Dobbs' recruiting profile was pretty similar to McBride's: 3-star, very athletic, not heavily recruited by other elite programs, etc.
