I wonder if Johnny Majors steered Kiffin to hire Kippy?....Very happy with this hire.

Interesting that he turned down an offer to be Fulmer's OC 2 years ago but agreed to become Kiffin's WR coach now.

I like this marriage between what seem to be the better parts of the "old school" with Kiffin's "new school" regime. I think taking what was so good about the past and reuniting it with our future is pretty darn exciting.

Probably because Kiffin's offense is more open and he knew Fulmer ran the same 5 running plays out of the same formation 60% of the time. Remember he is a WR coach.

He needed one more year to vest his pension, at least that was my understanding.

That is accurate. He very much wanted to return here as OC, but needed one more year to nearly double his NFL pension,

Amazing how things work. If Kippy had taken the OC job ---Then CPF would still be----------------. Another "perfect storm".

Kippy is a Native----Sweetwater I think.

Indeed, Kippy is from Sweetwater. I grew up there and he and the guys that played on the 70's state title teams are legends.

he turned it down because Detroit gave him a great offer to stay PLUS he needed one more year for full NFL retirement vesting. Was too good to pass on

With Chaney probably gone sooner than later for an NFL or college HC job, I'm guessing that Kippy is an OC in waiting. Kiffin is loading the bench and planning ahead.

Any news on Thompson? Perhaps Kiffin is setting him up as the DC in waiting.

My sources are telling me that Chaney isn't leaving. He is more than qualified to be called our OC in title. (Kiffin calls the plays and runs the USC offense.) I'm glad that Brown is back.
