Will Kamara return?

My point exactly with all of those names...was typing quick and my fingers got moving faster than my brain. After I hit post, I was what in the H...Hurd, really...hahaha

Any rate, I think there is a real chance he looks at all those names and decides to stay one more cycle.

Gotcha.

He definitely has some serious competition with a lot of very good rbs coming out. But I think he's as talented and as versatile as almost all of them. Then throw in what he witnessed this year with JRMs and Sutton's injuries....if I were him, unless I just really got an awful grade (from "internal/confidential" NFL sources, not Kiper) I'd go ahead and declare. Jmo.

Barnett will go in the top five.
Pro Football Focus has him ranked as the third best player in the nation overall, going number 4 to Jacksonville in their mock draft.

Don't see DB going top 5..He is the 3rd rated DE behind Allen and Garrett..I would love to see it but most likely goes in the 10-20 range..

There is no guarantee that Kamara will go higher next year, and there's the injury factor, and the wear-and-tear factor---NFL running backs don't last long. Kamara's skill set is pretty attractive to the pros.

He wont go. Basically, only us Tennessee fans know how good he is. And, basically, he only has one game on his resume. That's the aTm game where he put on a big time show-fumbles and all.

I have a feeling with McCafrey, Hurd, and a couple of other RBs declaring that AK might be thinking to stick around another year.
Especially since we don't know how mobile our QB will be....

You mentioned the deep class and specifically named Hurd? Lol. Not fornette, cook, Chubb ect.

He should definitely go.... He should not risk injury by returning.
We have Kelly on campus now. Chandler is a commitment and we are in strong consideration from the running back from Mississippi.
IF Kamara returns, it will be really crowded in the backfield.

Really hope he returns. We really won't be crowded at all. Kamara and Kelly would be the top 2 then Chandler after that unless we get Akers too. But if AK leaves we have a grand total of 1 career college start from our scholarship RB's.If we don't get Akers then honestly I only see 2 guys( JK and Chandler) as every down backs then have CFA,Coleman who may or may net be an every down type RB then hopefully we can add 1 more. So AK coming back would be huge and wouldn't have to throw FR in that may not be ready. Think Ty is #2 on the depth chart the second he sets foot on campus if Kamara does leave. Now if we get Akers or Etienne as a 3rd RB then that changes things. But this yr we start with 5 Scholarship RB's in Hurd,Kamara,Kelly,CFA and Lewis.. if Kamara leaves we have 2 left and 1 career start. And I don't see CFA as an every down RB so our RB depth will be at a dangerously low amount and making it a must to bring in 3 RB's this class and 3 that are viewed at every down guys. So we absolutely need Alvin back and he really should. He has a combined 4 career college starts and I'm not counting JUCO starts. And a combined 200 carries so I could see NFL scouts wanting a little more body of work from him. He could return and be the starter for a full season. But either way I wish him the best, he is a high character young man and very talented. But we have pretty much zero leadership returning next season so that would be another positive in him coming back.

With an improved OL and as the featured back from day one, AK could position himself as one of the best RBs in the country. If he really is projected as a 4-5 rounder this year, he could be foregoing millions by declaring now. Get insurance, stay, and get paid.

As much as I want AK to return, you make the most $$ on your second contract. As a running back, I wouldn't take that chance. He will be outstanding whatever round he goes, and should take his opportunity.

With this class...he really would do better to come back as build his stock. I love this dude. I would love to see him come back and be "The Dude"

If he has an agent they'll do a draft analysis for this draft and next draft, look at draft projections for running backs and probably just make a decision off that. Running backs aren't what they used to be, they draft a lot lower than say a left tackle, defensive line, even corner backs.

I don't think NFL teams burn high draft picks on RBs the way they once did. A lot of them seem to think they can get 2 or 3 serviceable backs in the later rounds (or as undrafted FAs) and save some money -- which they use to get better OL, who they probably think will make any runner more effective.

I know Ezekial Elliott went early in the 1st round last year, but I think most RBs entering the draft just expect to get a shot. A later round draft projection might not discourage them that much.
You are exactly right. If RB's were in as high demand as they once were R. Rice could find work. Just another way the owners keep from being hijacked. It balances out in the long run.

Might influence Akers decision too. Not to say he's coming to UT but he hasn't counted us out yet either.

True. Always a gamble.

I wonder how a rb draft class develops from pre-season, so to speak, to post-season. How many rb's for next year are typically off the draft board at this point, but perform their way onto the draft.

Point is Kamara's skill set is known, how many unknown rb's would pass him next year?...and could he just find himself in a similar position, while risking injury, underperforming, etc...
Talk about gambling...JRM, Sutton, DKjr, Tuttle all,(except JRM), coming back off of injury had a noticeable dropoff in performance. I'm convinced some of Hurd's reluctance to play was linked to the possibility of injury. We did make a change in coaches, (S&C), and ended up with the lowest paid and likely least experienced S&C coach in all of college ball...(salary rank #102). I'd definitely factor that possibility into the equation.

Truthfully his skill set isn't 100% known. He has started a grand total of 4 games and has been severely underutilized by Debord in 2 years. His receiving skill set is absolutely known buthis ability to line up and run it 20+ times a game is not and neither is what kind of stamina level he has and can he take the weekly hits Am NFL RB takes week in and out

If he's a combine invite, declare.
His draft status will be determined by his prodays and combine (if invited).

Why risk being grossly under utilized again. It's criminal what Debord did this year. Particularly given that Hurd was causing trouble.

I agree with Kiper on these... Just like preseason everyone will want to view this through the orange tinted glasses but I can't think that Kamara gets on the board before the 4th round... I still think he goes to the NFL this year and probably should.

Alvin has some serious decision-making to do. I see positives and negatives from both sides of the coin.

A return could set up a stellar senior, Heisman-worthy run here. NFL scouts need to see Kamara as the main man, which he would be with a return.

Injury and $$, divergent agents. A return and injury-free senior campaign would guarantee better draft position and $$, but what would an injury do? Tough decision.

I'm with Alvin all the way. He's been a bright spot and joy to watch. God's speed and luck going forward. I'd love to see him return to Rocky Top but will respect his decision, either way.

Go now, for small money, and hope you can stay in the league long enough to collect a payday.
Being hit for years by big fast guys.
Or come back to clown college players for 1 season, rise to 1st/2nd round, and collect enough money to retire.
Easy calculation: Stay, play, get big pay.
