Depends on what you define as success. Can he throw for 300 yards, 3 TDs and lose? Or 150 yards, 2 picks and they win?
Or screw the stats as long as he drives them down for the game winning TD?

There have been some pretty good athletes who have struggled against the Georgia Defense and they can make any QB look bad. Clearly, we MUST establish the run game and control the line of scrimmage and probably the second level as well. Other words, minizine their front seven. IF we can't do that within reason it doesn't matter WHO plays QB. I, too, have some concerns about our defense especially up front. I think we miss a guy like Gooden more than some thought we would. We are still a good depth chart away on defense to be very confident about winning at Georgia. As far as JG goes...I am personally pulling for the kid...(1) I want to win and I want him to win (2) Any kid that has been as committed to this football team and university as he deserves to be rewarded. I know some enjoy ripping the kid (after all its low hanging fruit and requires minimal thought) but Saturday is a TALL TASK for every member of this team. Hopefully once we've had a couple more recruiting classes things will begin to seem very familiar to the 90's for our team. And we, once again, will be the team that others "dream" about beating.
NO TURNOVERS!!!!

I can't say I've got enough confidence either way on this one. On one hand, as has been pointed out, Guarantano has appeared to be settling down and making better decisions so far this year. On the other hand, he hasn't seen stout opposition yet so far. Will he get rattled, or will he keep up the late-career development and turn a hard corner?

I've said that this is his job to lose, and I've expressed that I think he will. Well ... so far he's played better than we're accustomed to seeing him play, I'll give him that. My son and I were talking the other day, and agreed that every time JG drops back, and you can't see what's happening down field on the screen, we start to cringe until the ball (and the camera/screen) catch up to the action downfield. Maybe it's BVS, but his play is ordinarily cringeworthy (that was our assessment). But, again, to his credit, he's played better so far this year.

I said all that to say this, I can't answer your question OP. I hope so. I hope he has a career game. I hope he lights their vaunted elite D up.
And if he does, man will we all celebrate!

I hope.

ps - For the record,, I really believe this game comes down to who makes the other quarterback play worse.

The only comment I that I will make in regards to your fine post..... JG STILL overthrows way too many passes.

If he makes the right decisions tomorrow and Leads the VOLS to Victory over Smart and the Pups in Athens, delivering the Vols‘ biggest upset in two decades, they may build a statue of the Kid.

Winning erases a lot of bad memories.

I think we beat UGA but not because of JG. I think our defense will force two turnovers to help put our offense in position to score. We will continue playing clean ball and not turnover at all. We will lull them to sleep with the run and mix in a lot of play action against an aggressive defense. I also think we hit them on a trick play each half whenever they least expect. I predict we try one early in the 2nd and 4th quarters. It will be a total team effort.

JG's play has been the reason for several losses.....Ga. State and BYU come to mind. And who can forget that BONEHEAD GOAL-LINE play vs the Gumps? However at the end of the day, he is a VFL just like the rest of us. GBO. Kick UGA's @$$ tomorrow!!

We need JG to make those 10-25 yard throws like he never has before. He has to be consistent to loosen up that UGA D. He’s got to be very good with his eyes and move the linebackers around and fit the ball into tight windows. He’s got to tomorrow or I have my doubts about our effectiveness.

All this bull$hit “well his stats say he’s good here” stuff doesn’t matter if he can’t hit the open guys when they’re open and even when they’re not. He’s got to throw some guys open with back shoulder and taking the check downs when they’re available. He’s gonna take sacks tomorrow, but it better not be because he’s holding the ball longer than 3 seconds. His pocket presents needs to be at an all time level. He has to ball out tomorrow .
Period.

You don’t come to Tennessee to beat South Carolina, Mizzou, UK and Vandy. You come here to win games like this. I hope JG takes this opportunity and runs with it.

Throws for 250+

Doesn’t turn the ball over

Makes good decisions in the red zone

Think 2009 Crompton vs Georgia
What RZ effectiveness would indicate he had played well to you both personal and team? He was not good in the RZ last year but the only reason to care about that is when it prevents UT from scoring TD's.

UT is currently first in the SEC with 78.7% TD's in the RZ. Last year they were 13th. The OL gets credit but JG does as well for his decisions in the run game. But I think we all know this is a different level of challenge.

I will be shocked if UT successfully runs the ball against UGS's front seven. UGA gave up 87/game last year, and is giving up 58 this year. If Chaney holds true to form he will try to run between the tackles and beat UGA over the top. That's what he did at UGA against Bama. Hardman beat Bama's secondary deep for a 75 yard TD.

IMO, if UT can run the ball all bets are off. If not, JG will have to be close to perfect.

JG has done a nice job leading the offense on scoring drives and has been much better in the red zone this year compared to last season. He doesn’t have to throw for 250 plus yards with 3 TDS in this game (that would be nice though) but he needs to make the right decisions like checking down or simply throwing the ball away avoiding sacks. UGA will be bringing the heat on him during passing downs for sure.

From his 2-0 start? Wait, are we voting if JG beats UGA or the the team beats UGA? Or are we voting on JG redeeming himself from something. Can he redeem himself if we have a close loss? No! Yes! I don't understand the question. Is this a trick?

I took it to mean better decision making than years past and not throwing high and or behind wide open WRs. Yards after catch are a beautiful thing but requires a ball hit a guy in stride to happen. That would be redemption in most folks eyes.

JC needs to call a really good game Saturday against UGA's defense. It is going to be a challenge.
