Will Jalen Hurd make an All SEC Team?

Hurd needs to run lower and work on his vision. Many times this year he has missed a hole that would have been a touchdown. He hesitates in the back to much like he is in highschool. The difference is that everyone is as fast as him now. Those r things that will be fixed.

Alex Collins has the stats, but IMO he may not even be one of the top 10 backs in the conference

Arkansas opens up holes that I could push my grandma in a wheelchair through and pick up 5 or 6 yards

Collins is only the 3rd back in SEC HISTORY to post 3 consecutive 1,000 seasons. Hershel Walker and McFadden were the only other 2 to do that. Let that sink in....Collins is dang good.

Who's better Trav in your opinion? Hurd or Henry?

LOL. Hurd is so much better than Henry right now it's not even funny. Don't get filled by the huge alleys Henry gets to run through.

This post summarizes the depth of the football IQ visible on volnation......most just flat out refuse to see ANYTHING beyond the big Orange lenses........

Please step back....take a huge breath....and engage your brain.....

I'd agree with you, J, but most of the time Jalen has no idea if he's getting the ball or not to the very last minute. There are not many designed runs plays. It's all based off of whether Dobbs decides to keep or not. By default, you're a little tentative and not hit the hole as quick or hard as you should when you're not 100% sure what the play is even going to be.

I'd take either one in a heartbeat....both are very good backs---but both take back seats to Fournette........

What is SAD to me is that both backs are woefully UNDERUTILIZED.....

I would love to be able to see HURD run behind our offense when we used a FB and were committed to attacking the LOS between the tackles with isolations and counter gaps....throw in some traditional toss sweeps with pulling guards and allow HURD to attack the LOS at full speed with the ability to pick a hole and cut back against the over-pursuit.

Give him the ball at least 25 times a game and he'd rush for over 1500 yds--provided that his body was strong enough to take the hits.....

I think Henry's advantage over Hurd--other than running behind a better OL--is that his build appears to be a little thicker than Hurd--and probably could take the punishment a little better...:salute:

No, you don't nor do you follow this board. Hurd relative you just blasted. But, I do not feel what a kid may say should be posted on a board. We all get frustrated at times. These things could turn good fans against a player really quick when it gets out. vol74......not helping perception of Jalen with posting regardless if true.

I appreciate the concern, but the fact is, JH doesn't care about the fan's perception of him. If he leaves, he'll probably be the most hated player in TN history, so do you really think he cares?

He loves TN and loves TN fans (especially), but staying in this system and continuing to run behind this line will continue to be the reason why "threads like this" are even posted. Is he good enough to make an All-SEC team? Is he good enough? Lol!

He's at the point where he's just so damn tired of getting hammered at or behind the line of scrimmage with regularity (2 straight years now), and you have to wonder what he would do in a different offense behind a different line. Everyone on this board has thought about it and felt he's being used the wrong way in this system, so you don't think he's thinking about it too?

I don't believe that he should leave, and most all of his family feels that way, but at the end of the day, this is his decision and his future at stake.

Absolutely and getting hit behind the line consistently makes you more tentative, but as he grows he will learn to abuse anyone to touch him back there

I have a very good friend who is a Bama fan--and he has NOTHING but respect for HURD--and actually calls him a BEAST and admires HURD for his toughness and spirit....

We both commiserate about how our OCs FAIL to properly use them.....

I was truly hoping that DeBord would at least implement an offensive package that would better utilize HURD's talents.....to me--it's completely STUPID to have HURD's first 4-5 steps in the backfield go laterally instead of straight towards the LOS.....

There's a lot of us out here who HATE the way Jalen is being used--and would truly GRIEVE if he was discouraged enough to leave....GO VOLS!

I think he can thrive in the system if he sticks it out. He poses speed like kamara and bruising power of fournette. So he is a perfect fit. If he can embrace it he will demolish Tennessee records. Thoughts 74???

I will admit I like some pro sets and I and get me the ball and let me hit a hole fast and hard. This O doesn't allow for that and could be why J is tentative at times because he has to make sure he gets it. Old 74, Hurd will get paid and be a great NFL back and playing at UT is getting him that exposure and at 20-25 carries, he is not getting killed. Tell him to enjoy it and wins are coming and ignore fans and be a beast. Folks with football knowledge like Travis and scouts know what he can do.

Vol74.. If u don't mind my personal opinion..... I feel as if he hasn't embraced the offense in the sense that he would rather be in a pro style offense. Personally I think if he embraces what he has he will thrive in this offense. He has all the tools for the option read but as bonus points he is massive. A genetic freak. I feel that when that clicks in his mind, he will be something that we haven't seen. Just because your a big back doesn't mean that your one style. He can utilize all his abilities in an option read.

This--- I said it a couple of weeks ago- Henry is good, but Hurd is better. Henry runs through holes anyone could get through and hits the edge with three blockers/H-back clearing the way. You saw it even against LSU this weekend.

He's talked to the coaches on numerous occasions, but nothing has changed. Notice them run under center a couple of times during the KY, but it never happened again. Nothing will change.

He's not a fan of the system, but he's evolved well (I think). I really think it's the sideways running combined with ineffective blocking (constantly) that has become the frustration.

Yeah guys I've only posted 2200 post and have been on here for 4 years but I'm a troll. Lulz. It's just a difference of opinion. No need to bash someone for stating there opinion.

Pretty hard offense to embrace. We have the delay of a zone read but we never read.

Basically, we wait a half second for the D to key in on him then ask him to get hit at the LOC and drag people as far as he can.

It's a pretty unique offense, I'll say that

Ya I can understand that. The biggest issue many don't grasp is the line. Yes we have talent but in the SEC you can't run out freshman and dominate in the offensive line. If they had a line i think he would have more opportunity. This offense runs through the 3, and 5 gaps a lot and when those are not open your forced to bounce outside, so it appears as if he is running laterally when that isn't the case. If they opened the lane he would be down hill. Many don't understand on here how frustrating that is.

Hurd is the best back on the roster. Kamara is also a good back though. Hurd will flourish in the NFL.

I've been screaming all year about developing a package where Dobbs is under center and running about 30-40% of our plays from it......

But--and I say this from being 50 years old--the potential for personal growth is GREATEST when a young man decides to remain in unfavorable circumstances and submit to the authority over him......and, it usually works out BETTER for the one who will do it in the end....

GO VOLS! :salute:

I do think he will have a good NFL career. Our offense isn't for a back of his type and that's nothing against him. He would be an amazing power back with just an i formation. I like kamaras style though. Just my opinion.

Everyone talks about Kamara's speed---but to me...Hurd appears faster during games....

Hurd is much faster. He just has a longer stride. Kamara has great acceleration and quickness but that doesn't mean he has top end speed. Hurd has tremendous top end. Dexter mxclister comes to mind when I think of kamara speed. U all remember mccluster. Very quick and could accelerate but ran a 4.6 forty.
