Jackson is down to Stanford, Wake Forest, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, West Virginia and Auburn. He wants to decide this fall, but wants to make an official visit to Stanford before doing so.

looks like we're didnt want him.

He was rated much higher than Revis, Phillips, and Schofield but we didn't offer him. The coaches seen all these guys at camp which should make everyone a little more comfortable about those pick-ups.

It's still kinda odd to me that he is so highly rated everywhere and right in our backyard, but still we didn't even give him an offer. Any dirt we're not seeing?

Georgia Tech commit

An article in KNS a couple of weeks ago made it sounds like he was a back-up plan for the Vols. I have not read that he had a bad camp performance.

News Sentinel Top 10 in Tennessee, No. 10: Will Jackson of Farragut : Football Recruiting : GoVolsXtra.com

Say this much for Will Jackson: He's not going to be strung along.
"I'm not going to get in the waiting game with any school," the offensive lineman from Farragut High School said. "I'm going to make my decision and I won't look back from there."
The 6-foot-4, 280-pound Jackson, who is the News Sentinel's 10th-best prospect in the state, said an announcement concerning his college destination will come soon, possibly within the month and certainly before his senior season begins in August.
It would be easy for Jackson to get involved in a waiting game with the 800-pound Big Orange gorilla in the room. Countless prospects have remained undecided while Tennessee continues its evaluations into the winter months.
Jackson received significant interest from UT, leading most to believe that a strong showing in last month's football camp would spur the Vols into offering Jackson a scholarship.
Jackson lived up to his end of the deal. UT still has not extended an official offer.
"They're doing their own thing, getting the guys they want for whatever reasons they want them," Jackson said. "I guess they're looking at different things than some of the schools that have offered me."

The coaches must have seen something they really didn't like. Something that the ratings guys didn't see

Chitown, based on what I have read I think Jackson had a good showing at camp but the coaches are waiting to see what Peter White and Morgan Moses were going to do. Jackson said he wanted to commit before school starts up and he had numerous offers from some quality programs. It maybe that UTK staff overplayed their hand by assuming that they could keep a local kid on ice, or it could be that Jackson was trying to force the staff's hand when he said he would not wait around for an offer. Either way, there are higher rated guys still on the board. If the Vols get White and/or Moses then all is well. If they get neither and lost Jackson in the process then it is what it is.

Do you think if they lose out on White and Moses and then offer Jackson a few months from now he would sway from his commitment to GT?

I really don't know but it sounds like he was determined not to be someone's back-up plan. If he really wanted to be a Vol that badly then I assume he would've kept silent and played the waiting game.

Those are good reasons why we didn't offer him recently but my question is why we offered to Phillips, Revis, and Schofield, but not this kid who ever rater thought was great

I wondered the same thing. I think all these guys were at the UT camp at the same time. I guess the others showed the coaches more of what they wanted to see than Jackson.

He was on the radio today talking about his GT commit. Sounds like he was determined to make his decision before his senior year. I think the bottom line is Tennessee wasn't showing him the love and he wasn't going to wait around and hope to get an offer late.

He seemed to think his weight/size played a role in Tennessee not offering. Not sure I agree with that considering he weighed in at 283 today's opening practice at Farragut.

While you hate not being able to offer a solid prospect in your own backyard, I bet the coaches aren't too upset about Jackson. If they REALLY wanted him, the offer would have been extended.

With Peter White being a likely commit, being in Moses's top 3, and pushing for Wilkes and Easterwood, we're going to be in fine shape on the offensive line.

I agree completely. But, like chitown pointed out, I'm not sure Jackson isn't better than a couple of the guys we have commits from.
