Hughes is too big. He's listed at 327 and more recently indicated he's at least closer to 330.

I know that guys often come into spring ball overweight,, but this is just indicative of a guy with very little commitment. He has all sec ability, but he shows up overweight. Guys like this have to drive coaches crazy. The staff wants him no heavier than 315. I am so tired of reports about him dominating the OL when he's into it and disappearing when he's not.

Haynesworth was the same way.Maybe he'll turn it on this year, his jr year, like Albert did.

Sounds like he just doesn't want to put forth the effort to be great. He'll get replaced and see his time limited if he doesn't reverse that.

What kills is that when he wants to, he is unblockable according to all reports.

In the tradition of Reggie White and Albert Haynesworth, I think the answer is yes. Montori Hughes will get paid $$$.

Last year until Jackson emerged, Hughes was by himself. This year with Couch, and Malik Jackson and Walls, Montori is not the only giant man throwing himself into the offensive linemen. He will go with fury this year (though he will still look lazy on some plays) and he will have eye popping numbers. He will then be a first round draft pick.

Didn't CDD say he'll give a cash bonus (if it wasn't an NCAA violation) to the first guy who shows up overweight? Sounds to me like he's just trying to make some $.

It's very frustrating to see a player with so much talent not use it all the time. Hopefully he'll turn it on and keep it on

If there's an NFL.

I was thinking about Hughes yesterday morning. I am thinking a special position should be created for him called "The Berserker" and he should be given a couple or three minutes of playing time in games down the stretch in the 4th quarter. From all reports this might be his optimal use for the team. But of course I don't know.

Money talks.

He'll get motivated because he wants to get paid. He now has competition to see the field once Couch gets here.

If Hood is coming on as strong as it sounds I say sit his sorry arse on the bench for as long as necessary to wake him up. He's blowing a free education and an NFL opportunity, while screwing over his teammates in the process.

Good point.

We're not deep by any means at his spot, but there is enough there to keep him from seeing the field if he doesn't tighten up.

You don't need reports. Look at the video of the Oregon game.

The first half, Hughes repeatedly blew up the interior line, and UT goes in tied up at the half.

The second half, Hughes was no where to be seen and Oregon ran rough shod through the middle. Not sure if it was motivation, or just being gassed.

Either way, coming into Spring Practice overweight doesn't look good for overcoming either problem.

I'm betting it was being gassed. He rarely left the field.

Being 15 lbs overweight isn't going to help, but losing 15 lbs isn't going to make it much better either.

Wasn't he a 2* coming in, so isn't he reailizing his potential already?

Montori was a 2 star on Scout out of prep school, but like many young men, maybe he is maturing late. I don't know if 15 lbs. over 300 makes a huge difference, but if it does, sit him on every other series or something unless the new S&C program will get him in shape. A less talented sub is probably better than an all star that is gassed. If it is a motivational problem, that is something different.
