Will Hoosiers go after Pearl

IU fans want Pearl, but that is just not a good fit. He would not want to go into that situation right now and they will be looking for an up and comer like Tony Bennett(Wa. St) or Sean Miller (Xavier). Xavier has been a good stepping stone for coaches in recent history.

While Indiana has a huge tradition in basketball, I've heard they don't have a huge payroll to attract a high profile new coach. I'm hoping Coach Pearl is not only happy with the money and opportunity Tennessee has given him, he is sincerely interested in taking Tennessee basketball to a place they haven't been before and wants to beg the question to the nation "Indiana who?"

My KY friends are actually worried that IU may come knocking at Billy Clyde's door. I assured them there's nothing to worry about. I pity the UK fans.

Is that a bad thing?

She already has the highest salary in the women's game... no one will be willing to compete or pay her more. Giving her a raise just because Bruce gets one wouldn't be market driven, but driven by politics...

If they've got an extra $2 million to throw around, they should save some of that for Fulmer's buyout...

They really hope that IU will go after one of these three. CBP, Billy Donovan, or Rick Pitino.

At my office, some IU fans were saying their top 3 coaches were Bruce Pearl, Tim Floyd and Billy Donovan. I don't think they can hire any of those.

They will go after Bruce Pearl. No doubt about it, I just don't think they will throw the money at him that he should be paid. Sitting around the restaraunt at breakfast this morning, the #1 name that fans want is Bruce Pearl.

I know of at least one trustee that wants IU to go hard after Pearl. He still has a ton of friends and connections in southern Indiana. IU will also pay top notch now for a head coach, something they have not done in the past.

They will NOT go for an up and coming coach this time, they want an experienced coach. The only way they will hire an up and coming coach is if they bat .000 going after top notch coaches.

IU needs a Bruce Pearl to take over that program, I just PRAY AND PRAY AND PRAY that they can't pull it off and he stays at UT. I think he has a real love at UT and could really build UT into a basketball power on a year in and year out basis.

Plus, with the sanctions IU will have placed on them by the NCAA..I don't think a big time coach wants to walk into that situation.

Does anyone know what kind of penalties will be imposed on IU's basketball program?

Will their be scholarship limitations?

If the penalties are severe, it would definitely make their coaching search more difficult.

I am not a basketball fan, except in March for the Tourney, but Bruce has got me hooked, that is what he has done for our program, he has turned the casual tourney fan into a die hard that was screaming at his TV on Saturday night

Man ... some of you guys crack me up sometimes. A bunch of Costanzas -- running around worrying to death about whether somebody's going to go after Coach Pearl instead of relishing this UNbelievable season.

1. Of course, teams are going to go after him -- he's a great coach. That's better than the alternative.
2. We'll pay him what it takes.
3. If he goes, it won't be because we didn't offer him enough money. It will be for a program with a stronger tradition or his alma mater.

As for me, I'm just glad to be No. 1 ... and I'm pretty fired up about this team's chances in the tourney. Take a deep breath and enjoy, fellas.

agree. I believe him when he says he is on a mission here and will not leave until complete. he also stated he would honor his contract.

Yes Indiana and Indiana fans are definitely interested in CBP.

Stuck in Irish Country posts are on target.

NCAA will probably go no farther with sanctions now that Sampson is gone...along with another $750,000 of Indiana money, Ithink that brings the total close to $3.5 million us Hoosier taxpayers have paid out to X coaches and AD's in the last 8 years or so, Coach Knight, at least 1 AD, Dinardo and Cameron, not to forget M. Davis.

There is a split amongst fans I know, go after established coach, or someone young and give them 4 or 5 years to regroup. Coach Knight was in 20's when he came to IU.

My gut tells me if CBP shows interest IU will come calling with everything they got. If CBP is not interested, all he has to do is say "I'm not interested don't call me." Fat chance of that being said and stuck to, he has to have some interest in such jobs.

Gordon is gone period, but Crawford, Ellis, and Bassett form good returning nucleus and Sampsons 08 commits are very good, IF they stay. CBP gets on board, they all stay and sign. So the cupboard would not be bare and the talent is there to be top 20 in 08 - 09. Pearl knows the area, the state, the players, coaches, etc. and he would definitely be #1 Coach and personality in Indiana and at IU. Stay tuned, my guess is certain IU fans and friends of CBP have already called him and started singing "back home again in Indiana."

Just to add meaningless fuel to the fire, CBP is on the cover of the sports section of the Indiana Daily Student along with Tony Bennett and Dan Dakich. He is listed as the third most probable target with 10 to 1 odds of getting the job.

Bruce Pearl isn't going to go anywhere anytime soon. Not while Lil' Stevie Pearl in on the team here. He has nothing to gain by leaving here to go to Indiana...

i am not sure, but didn't indiana already try to contact Pearl about the job last year or two years ago?

Yes they did and he said "no thank you." But the paychecks will be much bigger this time around from IU. He loved coaching in the state before, but I just have a hard time seeing him leave what he has built at UT. Problem is, at UT he will always be 2nd behind football no matter how much he wins...at IU, he would be #1 hands down.

Someone mentioned something about can anyone provide the same buildings as UT, yes John Mellencamp will build whatever IU wants or needs.

The interim coach will not get the head job unless nobody else wants the job. They will be prepared to go after Pearl big time. He is #1 on the list and rightfully so.

Just hope BP says the same thing he said last time to IU, "no thanks."
