Will Heaps commit to us this week?

I may be way off base, but it doesn't seem like he's going to commit for a while.

Heaps on Tennessee:

On Tennessee: "I really believe in coach (Lane) Kiffin and their staff and what they're trying to do down there. I believe that they're going to get the talent around there. The community support and everything down there is just unbelievable. They have one of the nicest facilities in the country and their fan base is telling them it's not good enough. So they're getting it all revamped. They're getting $80 million new facilites and everything. I enjoy the offense and I believe in who I'm going to be coached by and I believe who I'm going to be coached by is going to coach me up real well."

Hopefully Reaves will be able to close the deal this week while in Washington.

Orangeblood thanks for sharing that. Reaves is/was with him. Hopefully we can get Heaps, even though I dont have him at #1 for us. (Scroggins) But it really doesnt matter what I think. I trust the coaches and thier judgement.

I am sure this has been addressed in other threads, but, does anyone care to shed any light on the HUGE difference in rankings between Scout and Rivals on this kid?

I know Scout is generally frowned upon when talking about football recruiting, but come on there is a very big difference.

He attended a Rivals combine and did not show out very well. They also said he was not as big as listed.

It's certainly possible he commits soon. With Scorggins, Hendrix, Brennan, and others opening eyes and his stock seem to be dropping off a little (scout combine and what not) he may commit soon while he still has his pick of schools.

I am saying yes.

Hope you know something. Heaps is a Mormon and has an offer from BYU. Has a sister who lives in Provo. Had once said on his website he is "probably" going on a church mission after his freshman year. Has tons of offers and LSU is in the mix. He likes Sarkisian/WU and "has been to as many practices and games over there as I can". I don't doubt Kiffin and staff though.

I don't care much for Rivals, or rankings in general really. I DO, however, have faith in our coaching staff to find a kid out there who can be the next successful UT qb.

Matt Barkley skipped 2008 version of that combine last year cuz he was afraid this would happen to him and he didn't want to hurt his rating. I like the part of Heaps at least showing up...

I know this is a very long post and alot to read, but I'm trying to get everyone as informed as I can. Here are the main points I can find about Heaps and UT...

From Scout on 4/17
I was very impressed with Coach Kiffin and his entire coaching staff. I keep in touch with their coaching staff a lot. Their offense is very quarterback friendly. I was truly impressed with the sincerity of their entire staff. Coach Kiffin really cares about you as a person and not just a football player.

I truly believe in this coaching staff, they are going to accomplish great things in Knoxville.

The quality of people in Tennessee was amazing. It's a great family environment. I loved the facilities there and their stadium is unbelievable.

They [Tennessee] are recruiting me as hard as anyone, they definitely made a lasting impression on me on my visit and how they are recruiting me.

The next day 4/18 he announced his final 5 and talked ALOT more about UT than any other school. Listen here:
Huskies Page - 950 KJR - Seattle's ONLY All Sports Station

Then on 4/21, droski (a Cal fan) came onto VolNation and made these 2 posts. He was asked where his info came from in the 2nd post:
I'm hearing you guys have the lead and that the UW interest is basically throwing a bone to the home team.

former cal player (of course he also told me carroll was a cal lock, but generally his info is very good).

he ranked it:

1) UT
2) cal
3) BYU

Later that day on 4/21 Heaps said this to ESPN:
The lucky five to make the final cut for Heaps include BYU, Cal, LSU, Tennessee and Washington. The feeling among most has always been the hometown Huskies and the Cougars, the church school for Heaps, are the teams to beat.

"I know a lot of people think that way but honestly, everyone has the same chance right now," Heaps said. "I feel really good about all five of these schools and I think I would fit in well at each of them.

Also on 4/21 Jesse Scroggins said this on Rivals about almost committing to UW and how hard UW is after him(which would also lead one to believe that Sark may have lost confidence in getting Heaps):
"We talked about it, but we were there to have fun, not there to commit. We wanted to sleep on it. I haven't really talked to them about it, but we'll probably talk about it this week," explained Scroggins. "I really don't know when I want to make a decision, but we'll probably make a decision at the same time, since we all want to go to the same school."

"U-Dub definitely moved up the list," said Scroggins. "They're showing the highest interest, and coach Sark has been real with me. I love the way he makes me feel. They're at the top of the list."

Then on 4/26, Skyline (which is the name of Heaps' school and most people think he is in-the-know) posted this on VolNation:
I'd say its UT and UW at the top, BYU and Cal a little behind. At this point if LSU really does anything it would be a huge suprise, even the LSU fans think they have no shot.

And last of all NCarolinaVol (some say he's credible, some say he isn't) made these 2 posts on VolQuest on 4/27:
Heaps will commit this week. Put it on the board. No Shenanigans.

New information has come to light, to where I feel confident in proclaiming it a truth.

These 2 posts were just posted on VQ:

Fred White was on 1180 around 1pm talking about reading on the message boards that Heaps had committed to UT. I didn't really take it seriously at all, but did anyone else hear that?

I heard that too, that he had committed, on the local Atlanta radio.

Seems weird to not be true and be around on all these places.

What gives?

Hilarious...sort of a chicken-egg-which-came-first problem we have here, isn't it?

So which came first, the sports radio show report about the message board post reporting a Heaps commitment, or the message board post about some sports radio show reporting a Heaps commitment?

My head hurts.

At the 7 on 7 in Las Vegas where Heaps competed, Scroggins team won the event and Scroggins was MVP. Heaps stock went down some.

I wish our staff was higher on Scroggins. He looks as good or better than Heaps. I think since Kiffin has been on Heaps since day one, and probably promised him the job, he feels less inclined to pursue Scroggins. I know we have offere him, but did anyone from the staff pay him a visit this week? Or is there a plan to visit him during this period?
