Will Friend

There are a lot of mediocre performers the last 10-15 years who have feasted at the UT teat. Performance isn’t demanded, and buyouts when you ultimately do enough to get fired are legendary. Frankly, we resemble a mediocre coach financial retirement program more than a football program.

THe fact that this guy siphons off $17k-$20k every week tells you all you need to know about the absolutely ridiculous economics of college football.

If Will Friend isn't sent packing today, we aren't serious about football. One of the most unprepared OL performances you'll see this season and from a unit with highly rated recruits.

We threw for 215 yards and ran for -1. They got 5 sacks. Great people, but I just don’t think Will Friend is the guy. I have never felt strong about him. Rushing sucks... not big enough holes. Passing sucks... no time to throw. Only time this is not the case is when we play inferior teams and even they compete against our line when they should not. What are we missing that he needs to compete with Georgia’s DL? He has plenty of talent AND experience right now. The only possibile explanation is our S&C coach, but our DL was on that field all night (thanks to our OL) and they kept it coming for the majority of 3 Qs.
The OC prefers O-Line to do zone blocking the blame starts with him

Idk I agree I'm not huge fan. He has ridiculous amount of talent and experience. Only thing is uga basically blitzed 6 and 7 guys all night because they knew jg would not handle it and he didn't. Hard run ball that way. To your point I'm not huge fan

He was doing fine until our line fell apart. Were they not blitzing then? Is some of this on Chaney by not calling the right blocking schemes? This is where my football IQ is low.

D Johnson’s boneheaded play hurt us and him too. The defense was noticeably different without him in the game.

He needs to go. Not sure how many chances we are going to give Pruitt to build a staff. It’s year three and he’s already replaced damn near everyone. There were a lot of head scratching hires on that first staff.

Never good when you hire one of your best friends as a coach at a major position group. Your offense goes as your OL goes. It usually doesn't end well when the HC loyalty of a friend interferes with his OL not being coached well.

No way he should be on Pruitt’s staff after this year. The O-Line still hasn’t lived up to their expectations. It’s not a talent issue anymore, no excuses.

If Pruitt wants any kind of success next year against the likes of Bama, UF, and UGA, move on from Friend & JG.

On his post game show, Basilio mentioned a conversation he had with Woody Widenhofer. Basilio asked what was his biggest lesson learned from his first HC gig at Missouri in the mid 80s. Woody told him he learned that hiring all the people you promised you would hire if you ever got a HC job (your friends) would get you fired.

Pruitt seems to have learned that except for, ironically enough, Friend.

Time will tell.

I don’t know if it’s all friend or the scheme. I know OL in my opinion has been subpar the whole time he’s been at UT, especially with the talent that is there.
