Some of the lesser teams may find themselves on the outside looking in with two more heavyweights in the League.

I have wondered the same thing OP. There are going to be more games played at a given time slot so, viewers are going to have to choose. I'm sure the TV networks won't schedule an Alabama/LSU game at the same time of the Georgia/Florida game. However, you may see that Bama/LSU game at the same time of the Ky/Vandy game which, is kinda how it's always been done.

It’ll kill any chance of being on prime time slots or the main networks

Yes, AL, GA, FL, LSU, TX, OK, A&M would get all the prime spots unless they were playing Vandy, MSt. TN, Mizzou. The rest of us games would be relegated to the off network stations.

I think that is a given. To compensate, will all this expansion lead to SEC network-2? In my lifetime, Arkansas, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Missouri, and now Texas and Oklahoma have been (or are in the process of being) added, with only Georgia Tech and Tulane leaving a very long time ago. Unless there are more departures within the next ten years, and there are not enough independent TV networks out there able to televise everybody in the conference, SEC-2 will need to become a reality. But if Texas still has their Longhorn network in operations, that might be worked out already with a bunch of changes there.

ESPN will renegotiate the SEC network deal as I believe there is a clause in the contract that if additional teams are added either side can reopen the contract and since I would think that ESPN will get out of the Longhorn network contract with this they will have more money to throw out as I don't see the league allowing Texas in with that television deal continuing.

I'm sure the deal has all but been signed and they are just waiting on the T's to be crossed and the I's dotted at this point.

I think both the conference and network have enough on the ball to have this be a done deal.

That's ok. I can't stomach Tennessee performances on CBS primetime anymore. Keep us in the shadows.

I’m guessing, but I don’t know….I think it will be damn near like the NFL.

You’ll have an afternoon and evening time slot game every week.

The potential for some of these weeks is a lot better and will get better ratings than whatever else CBS is broadcasting on a Saturday night

If you take NFL ratings and divide it by 2, you are going to get the *new* SEC ratings with the addition of Texas and Oklahoma. If the SEC become a 32 team super conference, I think it would surpass the NFL.

Discussing the latest crap with an old attorney friend in ATL, his take on the B12/ESPN dust up was: "Porsche Cayennes for a lot of attorney's mistresses" but no real damage to ESPN.

He did toss out the possibility that the 4 day work week is getting economic attention from big business. Lots of banter right now but it's possible Friday could be an "off day" for a lot of people and another potential sports viewing day which might be survival for small schools. I don't see the eyeballs being there but hey, Cornhole is on TV somehow. 🤷‍♂️

The league isn't going to increase the amount of conference games by 28.6% without selling that additional inventory to the networks....
28.6%?

From max 7 games to max 8, on a conference weekend? Or max 14 to max 16 on an OOC weekend?

Either way, that's a 14% increase, not 29%.

I think the ESPN programmers are going to be able to figure out how to add a game or two to SEC scheduling. Importantly, the total number of Power 5 football games isn't changing at all. Just one or two more in the SEC, and one or two less in the B12.

This is a non-issue.

32? Who else is coming? Michigan? Notre Dame? Clemson? Ha ha ha ha ha. Wake up and grab your ruler, Pee Wee.

I say the SEC takes over Texas' Longhorn network and we see SEC1 and SEC2 networks. Then games can be on ESPN, ESPN U ESPN +, SEC 1 and SEC 2 that will be plenty of stations to show every game in the SEC.
ABC may have 2 games also

Someone on the radio speculated that when all this finally shakes out, it's going to be two power leagues where SEC and ACC merge and will play on ESPN and their affiliates and Big 10 and Pac 12 merge and play on FOX and their affiliates.

dude, texas is not a powerhouse,
I agree...and it seems to be in vogue right now to relegate TN to the lower part of the league, along with the likes of KY, VU, SC, etc. TN still has plenty of drawing power historically, and all that's needed are a couple of good seasons and we'll be right back to being considered with the big boys.

It’s not about inventory. It’s about being the light too. You really think it would do Tennessee well to be on the ALT station every week?

The level of complaints on here is already high so you know what the recruits think…
