I'm going to be respectful here and say that "if" Tennessee wins tomorrow night and A. Jeffrey doesn't get to play for some reason or whatever, will USC fans say our only reason for winning was due to certain players being out? If Jeffrey does get to play, I'm sure we'll get some kind of other excuses if not from the USC coaches, definitely from the fans.... Remember I did say "if" tennessee won, so I'm trying to show that I'm not one of those who is guaranteeing a win for Tenn just because their my team. But I do wish just one time this year opposing teams would give UT's staff, players, and gameplan some credit. Will it happen? Personally I think it's highly unlikely.

Yes, they will.

If a tree falls down in the forest and there isn't anybody there to hear it, does it make a sound?

@volcrazi:

Both before and since the game, Coach Saban has made very complimentary remarks about UT's coaches, especially CLK and CMK, and about UT's players, including their talent and their performance. I posted some of the pregame stuff in a thread about of the positive things CLK had said about Bama before the game. I've read about positive things that Richt, Spurrier, Chizik and yes even Urban Meyer have said.

CLK and his staff are doing a great job of coaching. The team has improved significantly versus last season and as the season has progressed. The players are playing smart and playing hard for four quarters. The UT team that destoyed UGA and dang near beat #2-ranked Bama on the road is night and day different than the UT team of last season. There's a lot more to measuring the progress in turning a program than looking at Ws & Ls and final scores.

I can understand that recognition from peer coaches is welcomed and appreciated. There's some of that recognition out there, but it doesn't appear that anyone is digging it up and posting it on VN.

Who care about excuses? Who cares what the other team's fans say? You either win or you don't. Worrying about the drama before and after is way too womanly.

Of course you realize you made message boards irrelevant with that post.

Message boards are useful conduits of information and opinion. There's a pretty clear line at which opinion stops being argument and analysis, though, and starts just being drama and noise. I mean, the one thing that keeps sports from just being soap opera for men is that you regularly get to settle things objectively. You either win or you lose. The results are what they are. Worrying overmuch about the extraneous drama basically invalidates the one thing about sports that makes them worth watching.

Break the game down, argue about what happened on the field, sure -- but as soon as it devolves into this "we're in your heads!" posturing, then it's basically the the same kind of drama you get with middle-school girls and New York Yankees fans. Who cares about that kind of pointless crap when you know it's always going to be settled on the field?

Is the information useful or pointless? :shades:

Even though we are favored I think it depends... sadly. If we blow them out then credit given. If its a tight game no credit given. If we lose no matter what BLAME GAME all at the staff!

oko for me heres the point.... we as a tem are playing lots better than we have in the last few years, we have a better coach, better support in the assisstant coaches, and someone who seems to be up on playing at the level of the other coaches. hes not afraid to try new things. nothing against cpf but clk brings in new ideas and a big set of cohones to buck up in the media to the gators, sure he made some bad verbal mistakes but live and learn, we do however have a tougher team on both sides of the ball this year. a team that has found its heart and the reason it plays football. for the love of the game and the bragging rights. with it. sure we are not winning all our games, but take a look at the scores the gators didnt get their big score on us. bama nearly lost to us, i have heard it from several people i know in ala, they were worried and worried bad, sure we didnt come away with the win but thay had to man up and admit we could have and should have beaten them. we are a better team than last year even though we still have players from the cpf era. but we are playing harder from start to finish versus our history of playing it hard in the last half.
well at any rate thats my 2 cents take it or leave it.
GO VOLS !!!!!!! ALL THE WAY

Question is will Tennessee make excuses about USC getting all the calls or will Little Ms. Kiffin take it like a man?

Tidal, good post. I think most people didn't like his comments on tv immediately after the game on live tv prior to leaving the field. Other than that Saban did give some good props to UT. The same that CLK did. He never blamed the loss on the Cody helmet issue. And I agree some of the more level headed fans of Bama feel they were given a gift. Luck, a lot of times plays in winning Championships.
If UT loses then I think CLK will give credit to Spurrier unless there is a huge legit discrepancy from the officials that cost us the game. And I would say Spurrier will do the same thing if SC loses. We have so many out that I think if the freshman Jeffrey isn't able to play it is a pretty lame excuse for a loss.

Alshon Jeffery will play so we will not have an excuse if we don't win.

I find it funny that you guys are proud that teams make excuses when they beat you.

The USC fans will probably make excuses if they lose, but I don't ever remember Spurrier making excuses for a loss. He usually just says something along the lines of "we got outplayed tonight".
