Well, Crompton has certainly been screwed. This is either his third or fourth offense he has had to learn. I can't blame him nor should anybody. But, this year he has a chance to learn a more simple system designed for him. He has four years experience and has faced a lot of adversity. However, he is behind a thin offensive line with apparently only experience inside on the line. His peripheral isn't the best as we've seen. So, that is the only reason I question his improvement this year. Otherwise, I think he'd put up some decent numbers and we could actually end up seeing what the kid can do. But unfortunately, he has yet to have all the elements support him and he has been a poor quarterback due to circumstance. I hope that our line can give him time enough to prove what he can do.
Stephens showed some light at times. He was new and learning under Clawson. Not good. I think he has potential as well, but he's going to be facing the same issues.
However, if we put basically dead bodies on the end of our OL and have some quick snaps and run the heck out of the ball and cause them to cheat in a bit, then maybe that will help them stay fresh as well as keep the moderate defenses we play off balance enough to give our qbs the chance to throw and gain some confidence.
In the end, I think it's all on our OL. We need to build our lines and then build around them. Their performance solely relies on them as opposed to many other positions. So, it should be easier to recruit these guys I would imagine. Once we have stability in the trenches, the better qbs will want to play behind them. I think we should be looking to JuCo for OLs. I guess there just isn't anybody. But, I have mad respect for Oku & Brown. I'd wanna block for them... if I weighed another 120 lbs!
I'm curious as to what everyone else thinks. My opinion is derived from all that I've read, but once again... it's just my opinion.
