Will Chaney focus more on the run this week?

It appears so far this year (atleast in the UF game when it mattered) that we stopped running the ball not due to it not working, because it was, but because Chaney just went into deep bomb mode.

After the UF game, he even made mention of this.

So my questions are simple.

Will we see him focus more on the run game against GA?

And will his play calling style change any?

No. We will try it a few times, it won't work, and we will start flinging it.

Look for an up-tempo offense to start the game in order to slow down UGA's pass rush and limit the variety of looks from Grantham.

I'm wondering what it looks like if we are close but trailing. Those are the series that worry me most.

I think Chaney called the calls for Akron and will continue to do so...I don't see Derek trying to take on that task. He does hear the call on the headset and perhaps was referring to the fact that he could have called a timeout prior to the reverse play and then changed the call.

It also could be he chimed in on the headset with "run the end around here" .. he doesnt have to make all the calls, but because of the headset he should have some input .. "keep running it" or right after a turnover "go over the top with a quick strike here"

True! Very true!!!

When has the Pistol ever been a formation that threatens a run from the QB? It's just a way to get the RB into a tailback position without unbalancing the formation. You hardly ever see read option from it like you do regular Shotgun.

Maybe it doesn't. It's what Ainge said. Found this online:

The pistol formation works well with dual threat quarterbacks who can both throw and run and is also used when quarterback's mobility has been limited by injury.

They've got to find a different formation to run that play out of. Anytime you see Cord in the slot in that formation it's either the sweep or the fake to the dive.

Didn't we hit Rivera on a fake with it for a nice gain? I'd like to see that again.

Slow developing east-west plays like that are not going to work against good fast defenses like UGA. I would hope they don't even try it .

Cam Newton was ok out of the pistol

If he wants Bray to come out in one piece he better not ditch the run early. Good things have, can, and will happen if we get the run going.

He was all the way 5 yards deep in a shotgun most of the time. I'm not saying that Pistol can't be a dual threat formation. It just seems like you se a lot more play action out of it than designed QB runs.

Old dogs don't learn new tricks. He's still going to be predictable and call only passes by the second half. Hes terrible, and is behind the learning curve.

After the first drive, he will just call the play that gives us the best chance on every down (just like any OC). If our offense executes, no matter the call, we will score a lot of points.

Ie. if they leave the slot receiver uncovered, there's no reason not to throw to him 10 times in a row. If they go nickel or dime, and we have a power advantage, no reason not to run hurry up with 10 straight runs.

People may disagree on pass/run %, but it will be hard to find a drive this year that was killed solely due to play calling... Gotta execute

chaney better run the ball or he'll be ran out of town when he gets to the end of the season. via a moving van in his front yard.

I just hope he focuses on winning. I do not care how it gets done. Our defense can score all 35 points.

We need to run the ball from under center. This forces the back to concentrate on the exchange and hit the called lane. If we give them the ball deeper in the backfield they use it as a chance to dance and pick a spot. On rare occasion it lets you bounce a good run outside but they have not shown the maturity to make the right decision. Force them to the spot by limiting their inputs.

Georgia will stuff the run. Forget it. Throw some quick slants and dumps to the backs, and screens to slow down the rush. Running will be like UF. Waste a down.

Sorry, but UT doesn't have an SEC type back. Tackle busting run you over---that. Or run to daylight. That neither. Haven't done well recruiting RB. It is what it is.
