Will Butch pull a Cuonzo

If he some how gets to 9-3 and survives does he go somewhere else where the heat is not so high and he feels more appreciated.

If everyone is being completely honest that's the best thing for this program. Butch goes 9-3 or 8-4 and his recruits sign on early signing day and then he goes and gets another job. Sexton is his new agent so he could certainly make it happen.

9-3 there is some comedy for ya! I see 1 game left on the schedule that I am not too worried about. At this point the rest could go either way, besides Bama of course

He should and the sooner the better. He's still got a lot to sell right now:
1. Re-built the program
2. Consistently overachieves with great recruiting classes
3. Respectable (Overall) win percentage record
4. Bowls games every year
5. 100% Bowl Game win percentage
6. Improved student-athlete academic performance to the highest levels, easily exceeding NCAA requirements.
-Runs the program to the highest standards in compliance with NCAA rules and values.
-Is known by most to be a really nice guy of high integrity
-etc.

If it's at the end of a really dismal season, you can take away 1-5.

Right now, Butch is like a used car you're trying to sell. The seats and carpet have been vacuumed, the dash shines with ArmorAll, the outside has been washed and waxed, and it's clean under the hood. Inside and out, it looks like a great buy but, the reality is it's still a used car that doesn't run very well.
Waiting until the end of the season, our used car is going to be found sitting on the side of the road with an "Orange" sticker on the window.

Last year he couldn't drum up legitimate interest from any AD at a P5 school, there's no reason to expect him to be able to do it after he posts the same or worse record this season.

He's going to have to lower his expectations just as he made Vol fans do for the past 5 years.

Because he's not a good coach. We had 3 NBA players on our team and barely made the tournament.

Have we made the tournament since? And how far did we go when we made the tourny? Sweet 16 and almost elite 8 if I remember correctly. He was a good coach, and UT gave him no time to prove it. After that we got some yahoo who was here for like a year and then Barnes who hasnt proved to be worth his salt.

Yeah, you pretty much did.... But to answer your question, I still support the Vols. Am I happy with how we have played this year? Nope. Would I be happy with a 8-4 regular season with a bowl win to get us to 9. Yeah, I probably would be. Do I think that's going to happen? Nope. But I'm going to let the season play out before I call for a public hanging.

The question was "do you support Butch?"

The question was "do you support Butch?"

Absolutely. I will support him until he is no longer our head coach. Do I have a "Keep Butch" banner hanging from my house? Nope. But you better believe that I am going to support him while he is our coach because if he is winning, our Vols are winning. Do I have concerns? Absolutely. Should we have won the East last year? Yup. Should we have beat Indiana St and UMass decisively? Yup.

This lynch mob mentality on message boards and social media is an embarrassment to the University of Tennessee (For exhibit #1, see the fake DUI story). I don't know why anyone can't understand that. If he wins enough this year, he will be our coach. If not, he will be fired. Pretty simple really.

I've been saying this will be the case for the last 3 weeks. After leaving Cincinnati to come here, I could definitely see him bolting. Especially now that his family is being impacted by his record.

He is not going to be a factor in the SEC does not have the system to win in this league. He will be doing himself a favor by taking a job in another conference like he came from.

This line of thinking assumes that Tennessee is the only Athletic Dept in the country run by imbeciles. I'm sure there is a Cal out there desperate and dumb enough to pay him.

We asked the same, "Who'd be dumb enough to hire him?", question when Zo was in his last year at Tennessee, too. In steps Cal.

You cant just assume that UT is the only mismanaged group out there. That isn't to say Butch will land a cushy job paying him what Tennessee is, but I wouldn't be shocked to hear Oregon State would give him $3.5 mil to come there right now. A slight pay cut, but he could go there and restart his clock like Zo did at Cal.

OK. Fair points.

I would say the difference is outside perception. Most Vol fans felt like Cuonzo underachieved throughout the season with his talent, and then turned it over and did well in the tournament, even though he still underachieved given the talent he had as a whole.

Outside perception was the opposite. Here is a coach making a tournament run with a bunch of nobodies from a nobody program at Tennessee.

Butch isn't looking a similar situation. Outside perception was that Butch was an awful coach after the OU games.

Anyone with friends who are fans of other SEC teams know. Butch has never had the perception of being a good coach outside the fan base. It's just now that outside and internal perception are lining up.

To think we would lose out is silly; no way we don't finish with a few more wins.

Tennessee doesn’t necessarily need to lose out to guarantee Butch never wins another game. I don’t think it’s at all guaranteed that he finishes the season.

To think we would lose out is silly; no way we don't finish with a few more wins.

Missouri has only beaten Missouri ST and M-ST still scored 43 points.......M-ST is a 1-4 FCS team.

Southern Miss isn't a bad team but their wins have been vs: ULM, UTSA, & Southern (only the Sothern win was dominate).

If Tennessee losses to Missouri............the entire staff should be fired before they go back to the locker room (but I'm so down for keeping the RB and DB coaches).

If Butch can turn this around to 8-4 (give or take a win), I'd expect he'd have Jimmy Sexton putting out feelers to the two Arizona schools, both of whom are likely to fire their coaches at the end of the year. They run a similar system to what Butch runs, so the personnel turnover would be minimal. Neither of those schools cares that much about football, so 7-5 & 8-4 probably won't look too bad to them. Of course, Lane Kiffin will probably be eyeing one of those jobs as well.

He already tried with Purdue last year.

This gets glossed over in my opinion. He wanted out. After the Vandy loss he went off the radar and for good reason. All the while, he was targeting the Purdue job until he was told no thanks.
