So Rod Wilks is moving to defensive back? I really thought he was going to be a good physical reciever for us. I wander how it will work out for him and if he is upset.

Nothing wrong with that move. If he's really 220 and UT thinks he's fast enough to play safety then he'll be a special player there. Remember this coaching staff told McKenzie he was too slow to play S.

Of course at that weight he could be an LB too.

i wanna see an article that clarify's this, i cant see the coaches moving him to WR after just a few practices..
especially with one of the biggest playmakers of our past recruiting class

i could see Wilkes being really mad if this is true ??!!

utfantilidie might be inconsolable
I'm not too surprised. He's not a speed demon but does have good field vision. Whatever gives us the best chance to win, I'm all for it. Smyrna or not. Crompton or not. Fulmer or not. All Vol!

Agreed, but I'm for the not on Fulmer.

Our WR Core is pretty stacked right now. The only way for him to play right now would be on Defense.

dangg.. i wonder if he'll get a shot at WR next year..
or if they plan on keeping him at safety for the rest of his career?

anyways, he'll still be one of the most talented safeties the next few years.

hopefully he'll be able to get a good roll on special teams one day..

I have to say I am a bit surprised by this move, however, you are right. We are so deep at WR right now, that he would probably spend lots of time on the sideline. Apparently he is a really good athlete and this is a way to get him some early playing time and take advantage of his skills. To be honest, we could really use some depth at safety. CB were deep, but safety, although we are strong, we are not real deep.

I was watching us escape vandy earlier on css. We could greatly benefit from a physical receiver. We have good ones just not real physical. Hope the run game is real good i got a feeling were going to need it.

Rod has shown he’s a very good athlete,” Fulmer said. “He’s about 220 pounds and it looked like it probably would be difficult for him to get into the top six of the receiving corps, so we moved him to safety to see how he looked.

I think this is awesome. Considering the depth and his injury (redshirt possibility), maybe he can contribute immediately.
