Wiley getting it done.....(S+C)

A buddy of mine coaches @ Baylor School in Chatt, he worked beside KCooper yesterday and with him today. I'm no expert, but he (buddy) is. He said KC was in GREAT shape. Mentioned that his workout book was customized for HIM. Had his pic on the front, and an obviously detailed workout plan complete with worksheets of sort to keep record of progress. 265 clings is what he said was most impressive, but he was also working a program and not lifting competitively. So bottom line, he's strong. After the workout, KC went to the fb field and ran 12 100 yd SPRINTS. Followed by 12 40 backwards sprints. Like I said, I'm not S+C expert, but that sounds like it would push an athlete past their limits. Which is good. Anyway, just thought it would be a good subject considering Wiley is new as well and its the offseason. Discuss....

I believe you meant 'cleans' not 'clings' and yes 265 for a power clean is an impressive number and cleans are a fantastic football lift, very explosive, requires and builds lots of power. I'd like to know his squat number. If it is high as well he'll be bringing some serious pain to LBs lead blocking.

I could say something, but I'd be marked out as a Kiffin apologist. I hate Kiffin.

Regarding Kiffin and his 'all star' staff last year...

Let's see what he can get after his dad retires and O moves on. Outside of his dad and O the rest of the staff were good but not necessarily stars. I liked his O-line coach but any half baked O-line coach is going to look great following the disaster of Adkins and his O-line coaching malpractice.

The other 'star' on Kiffin's staff left in less then a year and never did sign a contract.

I think we kept the best two coaches on his staff other than his dad and O and upgraded the O-line, db and wr spots. Jury is out on Smith and Wilcox but I think they are bright young talents with huge upside. QB coach might be an upgrade just don't know yet and special teams should be much improved.

This is great news. Dooley has hired some bright, young guys - some may be the next Sabans and Meyers. We might have a tough year next, but the systems are getting in place, the relationships are being built, and new foundations are being layed.

I am feeling the same way...the Dooley Diesel is picking up STEAM!:clapping:

Thanks for the clarification. As you can see in my post I'm no expert. I'm 5'11, 155 and I never really lifted bc it messed my shot up in hs, so I stopped. Anyway, I don't know all the iron-pumping lingo. So, yes, I meant he was doing CLEAN lift reps @ 265 lbs.

Nice thread. Brought up a new subject. Not a lynch Dooley thread with no actual facts on why we should lynch him yet. Good job Kush!

Gracias. It's slowly getting some action. I'd like to discuss how much will to win and superior conditioning and toughness will be able to mask our talent gap. I think it certainly can help, just not sure how much.?? Any thoughts?

Before we get all giddy with this lovefest, let me warn you, that every team has a s&c coach that does just that. They all push their players. They are all freaks. Plus, they all do the notebooks. Or at least a good majority of them do. They all put together ind workout programs.

The book idea came from Phil Jackson. Or at least he made all of his players (yes, Jordon, Pippen, etc.) carry notebooks. They all had their personal goals, mapped out their personal lives as well as their professional strengths/weaknesses, etc. They were not to be seen w/o book close by.

The best thing about this Wylie guy is that people like us are talking about him. Like my old boss used to say, "there's nothing new under the sun." But, there are better ways to do things and those who recognize those ways are the ones who succeed.

Go Big Orange.

I thought we had talent, just not a lot of depth or experience. With young talent, good conditioning may help us stay healthy. I believe staying healthy will be a key to having a decent season.

Nice thread... Go Vols!!!

Oh so we shouldn't be talking about how our new S+C coach seems to be doing good bc we had an old one? And bc everybody else has one? Of course they do big guy! And of course they ALL "push" their guys. Just like ALL coaches "coach". Does that mean ALL coaches are doing the BEST job?? U tell me. Bc I seem to remember more than a handful of BCS HC dismissals. But..but..they were "coaching".....Thanks for your input tho. And I'm pretty sure a coach in the 100 yrs prior to Phil Jackson used a personalized notebook. LOL

Thanks.
We have more than say, KY, but not as much as Bama and FL, or Oregon, or LSU. We could plug in experience where I used talent and examine it still the same.

LOL. Madness. Thanks. Hell be there a bit more I'd say. Seeing as Baylors weightroom is beyond nice and he's an alum @ home right now. My buddy told me he had 2 friends with him, much thinner and more of what you would consider "speedy athletes" (in good shape) and Kevin raced them across the bb court. Said it wasn't close.
2. On the positive thing. I feel the tide SLOWLY changing. It is far from where a 7-8 win will get it. But I think a bit of suppport is beginning to show itself. Little by little, day by day. Just like our guys bustin arse, some as we speak. Buy in bois, sell out for UT and your teammates, and go to work. I'm a little excited about the fact everyone is telling/expecting them to fail. Just how I like it. GBO.

If DD is as smart as they say. He will instill Pride, Responsibility, and Trust in these young men. When they take it personal and hold themselves to as high of standards as they do everyone else, we will begin to succeed.
