Unless Dooley is a master of propaganda, he was talking up the Wild Vol package in Fall Camp.

Wasn't G Jones the primary Wild Vol? Or was that still the G-Gun, and the Wild Vol package was direct snaps to Poole and Oku?

Regardless, if G Jones is integral to the Wild Vol package, it might be a wrinkle we just don't have against Oregon.....

Anyone with thoughts / insight on exactly what kind of package Dooley was / is thinking about running?

Dooley/Chaney played a vanilla offense for a reason. Why would they give Oregon any film to study.

I think it was supposedly Jones taking snaps with Oku in the backfield. They definitely weren't going to break it out for UTM, but no idea what happens now

Yeah, I knew they wouldn't show their hand against UTM. If G Jones was primary, it is probably a no-go this week. That hurts; Dooley seemed excited about it during Fall Camp.

Thanks. :good!:

Not really sure what to think. I would imagine Dooley has a back up plan for this package of Jones was to get hurt or what have you

it is not a big deal. The Wildcat is single wing football...it is the offense of choice to teach to 2nd graders and the great great grandfather of todays offenses.

It is a single zone read . Oku or Pool could pick it up in 15 minutes. The cool thing is that you would have them both on the field at the same time.

No worries.

Moore will do it if we use it.

And I bet he's better at it then GG.

Much more explosive

:daddy::daddy:With Jones and Moore hurt, the single wing may not be a bad idea at this point. Get Coach Majors on speed dail!

Heck, let whoever is running the scout team run it. Somebody is bound to get good at it imitating Oregon and Florida the next two weeks.

The whole concept is a little funny to me. Never figured out what was so innovative about snapping it to the fast guy and letting him read and ball fake . . . like they were doing in 1920.

Relieved that this post didn't mention RT Warehouse, Hannah's, Bar Knoxville, etc.

I was concerned for a minute.

. . . and while we're at it. Am I just in a cranky mood or has it gotten completely goofy that everybody refers to fast guy lining up in the shotgun as some derivation of "Wild (insert team name here)"?

Yeah....I thought we used a basic basic playbook for the most part against UTM....there is no way that Jones was the only one taking snaps for that....I also still think we have an advantage with Wilcox's schemes for Oregon....it is great to have someone that figured out how to completely confuse and shut down their offense last year...now he has more speed to do it with.

I hope we dont see it cuz the Wildcat usually means that the Conventional "O" is not effective and a change of pace is needed. I would much rather see Simms and Co have so much success that Dooley doesnt want to interrupt their momentum.

I thought we might see some of the G Gun in the game today, but since Gerald is injured, do you think they might still run the wildcat formation? If so, who will be the players in the backfield? I wouldn't mind seeing Da'rick and Oku back there, or even Z Rogers and Oku.
