Wilcox Speaks

I'll give him his "wampum." "Chief" has literally saved the "mad-hatter" from early extinction. Majors and SEC teams have been saying it for years.

I'm sure as soon as Wilcox can find that special person he can relate to on a personal and emotional level without undue feelings of anxiety and stress and without preying on internal insecurities and personal doubt, associated with conflicting philosophies on defensive schemes. Did I mention that stuff can really hurt your feelings?

I'm sure he will show vol nation what a real Boise St. defense can do.

Couldn't find a "While attempting to be clever, I forgot to finish my run-on sentence" FAIL, so this will have to suffice.

He also saved Fulmer.

That being said, I don't miss him.

He never left campus to recruit and always seemed to make an arena league WR look like an All-Star.

He got better. Patrick Peterson was an absolute lock down beast and this year's DBs and defense are being ranked top two in the conference.

Actually there's noting unusual there...his defenses were ranked high often.

Remember the 6-3 game at yaws house in 05?

I will wager that it was more of Brice's poor writing rather than Justin's speech. I've had the opportunity to meet Justin, and he is a very well-spoken man. If any of you get the chance to talk to him or Sirmon for a few minutes after a practice, in a restaurant, etc... do so because they are very friendly, and you can tell they love their job.

A couple people I know have met him and say the same thing. They also say how polite and nice he is.

DJ Hall's performance in '07 was one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen.

Sure do, if your DBs ain't on an island in the SEC and you don't attack, you're not going to last in the SEC.

In the give and take department, he's way ahead on the latter.

That's because he has a roster packed with top-shelf talent. LSU is perfect for him because he doesn't recruit; all you have to do down there is open the doors and five-star Louisiana talent rolls in.

Sometimes a live interview is like that no matter how well you might speak at other times. Conversation sometimes doesn't come off well in print if done word-for-word. Listen to yourself talk, and then imagine what that would look like exactly... line-for-line.

How many times have you read a piece that you have seen before on video where it was cleaned up to read better in print than it actually sounded?

Agree....that's where coach Chavis ran into his problems here. He'd go prevent and not attack. After beating a team back to 3rd n 20 something he'd try that mustang prevent crap and get us killed.

imo he's the best 1st and 2nd down def coord in the country.

I would rather have Chief than the old Relic Monte Kiffin.Down the stretch in 2009 his defense sucked at Tennessee. His defense was even worse last year at Usc.

You really, truly believe that? Well you just keep on keepin on.
I'm wondering if he turned down Texas because Mack Brown won't be there after this year, 2 at the most, and he would be looking for another job again imo.

I don't know though.

If Mack is gone that quick I'm suprised Muschamp didnt stick around .. I thought one reason he finally left was he felt like HC at Tex was too far into the future ..

Yep.

Coach Chavis prowled our sidelines for a long time.Fielded some damn good squads too.Dont guess it matters to you since yaw still have to deal with em every year.

I like coach Wilcox but he has yet to prove his defense works in the sec....have hope tho.

He has yet to have SEC level personnel to work with.

when rumors of Wilcox going to TX were floating around, and Randy Shannon was available at the same time... personally I got excited. Now that Wilcox stayed I'm not mad that he did because yes I realize he didn't have much to work with last yr so I do realize he may still be good here ... but I definetly agree w/ him that he is lucky to be here more then we are lucky per say to have him.

Haven't missed Chavis one minute since he left.

Me either. Wilcox will prove his worth a little more this year IMO. He has better players, and the D players have had a year in this system. Plus he will be able to install more of his D.

it falls on deaf ears. I agree with the poster that says he probably wants out..before anyone gets their panties in a wad that is a legit conclusion based on his mumbo-jumbo interview. You know the man who doth protest to much.........

hate to say it but while i was reading the original post, i was thinking, "crap, he is outta of here if he gets a chance."

Exactly.

A lot of posters are so quick to act like a douche that they end up showing their ignorance and lack of common sense.

It gets old.
