I can't believe I'm joining the insanity rampant on VolNation these days, but here goes:
Why not promote Wilcox to HC? We retain him and Sirmon and maintain a semblance of continuity, which might allow us to hold onto some of what appears to be a decent recruiting class. He's pretty clearly destined to become a head coach somewhere and probably sooner rather than later. Why not make it here?
The alternative is the status quo, which seems increasingly unsustainable. If we lose to NC State or Florida (or both) to begin next season, Dooley will instantly become a dead coach walking, which will doom us to another season down a toilet filled with anger, despair, and uncertainty. Maybe we should accelerate the arrival of reality and move on to the next chapter.
I realize that the appearance of a coaching coup d etat would be unconventional, but if it has been done before to any extent it was at UT, with Fulmer sinking the rusty knife in Johnny's back. It's ugly, but, hey, this is the world we live in.
It's amazing how that dismal performance on Saturday changed my perception of Coach Dooley.
