Wiesman on Vols' DL improvement: 'Oh, my God'

TIL that being a first round pick automatically makes you a great football player, better than any non-first round picks.

Also, that years of extra practice, strength and conditioning, and study of the game of football don't count for anything. A team with a bunch of 18-22 year old pro-to-be football players would whoop a bad NFL team

2008 Florida would also give NFL teams fits if they started Cam Newton ahead of Tim Tebow. That team was LOADED.

No doubt that a true freshman, straight out of high school Cam Newton would have given NFL defenses fits 😂😂😂

Idk man, 2001 miami may have given a couple crappy nfl teams fits lol probably the only team that can legit ever say that though.

Who was the QB for that Miami team? Ken Dorsey, dude that couldn't even sniff the field in the pros. Also players go through a lot of changes to make it at the NFL level. From rookie interviews players have said NFL training camp is harder than anything they did in college, including the games. NFL players don't worry about hours they can practice or going to class or homework, they focus 100% on football. If you got the 2001 Miami team back together in 2004 then they would be a playoff team, but no they wouldn't have come close to winning in 2001

Exactly. Some of our posters here don't understand the difference that a few years in the league make. Especially in the trenches.

Jon Kongbo looks like something out of WWE.
6'6" 285 and runs like a LB...
Look guys.. when you have a guy with that stature and ability, its gonna be a mismatch inside or out! Too strong plus fast against tackles. Too quick and too much leverage for guards.

3rd down pass rush.
6'6" 265 4.6 K Phillips
6'3" 270 4.7 D Barnett
6'6" 285 4.7 J Kongbo
6'4" 245 4.5 D Taylor

Switch it up
6'2" 250 4.8 Corey Vereen
6'4" 260 4.8 LaTroy Lewis
6'3" 295 4.9 K Vickers
6'3" 250 4.6 A Smith

Mixon
KMAC
Tuttle can also rush

We have some quality on that DL.

It's such a ridiculous argument. 2001 Miami had one starter on the offensive line that went on to any sort of notable NFL career. Not to mention he was still a kid at that point. Didn't make a Pro Bowl until 2009. A great college team would not beat a team full of grown men 1 out of 10 times. Just not going to happen. It's the least informed argument I've ever been forced to listen to.

Boston College and Va Tech both gave 2001 Miami a tough game that year as loaded as UM was. A bad NFL team would destroy them.

I'll do you one even better. Take any 2 year NFL starter and put him on a college team and he is instantly the best player in college football. Seahawks safety Kam Chancelor is 1 inch shorter and 27 lbs lighter than UT DE Kyle Phillips. Let that sink in for a bit

Just when I think you couldn't do or say anything more stupid than you already have...you go and totally redeem yourself. Playoff team? Get out of here with that garbage.

For those keeping score, according to D4H, and I'm sure this is not the complete list, we, Tennessee Team 120......

1. Have the best QB in the country. He will win the Heisman and is a sure fire 1st rd pick.

2. Have the best running back in the country and will be a sure fire first round pick

3. Have 40-45 future NFL players on our current roster.

4. Will go 15-0 and win the national championship.

6. Will average 50 ppg on offense (he's backed it up to 45 ppg recently, but his initial prediction was 50 ppg iirc)

7. And now, our defensive line where we're actually thin in DT numbers....is better than the DL of an NFL PLAYOFF team

If I'm missing anything, please add to the list.....this includes you D4H.

"I'd take Stephen Griffin all day every day over Chancellor.... not that fatty TKJr, but Griffin for sure, and it's not close. He may not even start but he's so good that even if he only plays on special teams he'll win the Jim Thorpe Award for the best DB in the country."

A front four of Kongbo, Tuttle, K-Mac & Barnett would be hard to block by most collegiate offensive lines.

What's awesome about that is IMO, I dont think any of those four will be our most productive DL. Vereen will be the leader in stats on the DL at the end of the year, that kid is a beast and he really came on strong during the second half of last year. This might just be the best DL (at least depth wise) we've ever had.

Getting Tuttle back would make our d-line better than most in the NFL. It'll be unfair.

I have confidence in the guys we have right now holding it down till be gets 100% healthy.

When you practice against the best it's got to make everyone better.
Hats off to the staff that's worked on getting these players for us to watch and root for.GBO

Far too many people are forgetting about Kyle Phillips.

He's been fighting injuries since he got to the hill unfortunately.

If he gets 100% healthy and remains healthy then I believe we're looking at a all SEC/All American DE.

He's simply too fast and far too agile for the O linemen to stop much.

King Kongbo is gaining weight and muscle fast and is still fast and agile so I'm seeing him progress more as a pass rushing DT that will be too hard to handle without a double team on him after he really learns how to play well at the top level.

Kongbo and Phillips on the same side together will become a total nightmare for any O Line to try to stop.

Our D line talent is totally unbelievable!

The Big Orange Swarm of Shoops Troops are coming and they will NOT be denied!

Earning respect and climbing the rankings WIN by WIN...VFL...GBO!!!

What has happened to his Griffin crusade? I'm a fan of Griffin too. Think he will eventually be a good player for us. But D4H had him challenging the NFL rules about leaving school early. Haven't heard him mention that in a while.
