Widespread Panic in Atlanta

Ironically, all the bands mentioned above performed at Bonnaroo '05. Well, Anastasio was by himself but it'sjust Phish with a different band. Great event. Most fun I ever had at an event like that. Top it off with the Black Crowes, Les Claypool, Alison Krauss, and The John Butler Trio and you have yourself a epic lineup. Not to mention bands like Kings of Leon, Modest Mouse, and comedian Jim Breuer. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.
You obv have never seen Phish. They are so much better than the trey band.

I however will be in Miami for New Years. All four nights.

BTW, I have seen panic and phish and panic. While panic is fun and talented, phish is ridiculous.

Seriously though, man...

APD works these shows like their careers depend on it. The cops can make a quarter's worth of quota in three days.

Lots of patchouli in the Fulton County Jail during every Atlanta New Year.

If you have to ask, you probably don't want to go.

WSP is a fantastic alternative-rock band, popular since the early 90s, that plays epic sets known for frequent guitar and percussion-driven jams. They get a little bit of a ding from the pop-music culture for their cult-like following of post-modern hippies who often tour the country, following them and selling anything they can to pay the way. It may be a stretch, but think of them as carrying on the Grateful Dead torch.

If you aren't bothered by a little pachtouli (sp?) and other "aromas," you should catch a show. They are amazing musicians and songwriters. Should be one heckuva show.

What you meant to say is that they're a 2nd-rate Phish.

i never could figure out why Phish fans are so jealous of Widespread Panic.

different bands with completely different management styles.

Yes, you're right, they are different. Phish is good and Widespread is so-so.

Actually I have. A few times. I'm not a uber fanatic Phish fan, like they seem to attract. You can still see the influence of Anastasio in both bands music. That's why I say it's Phish with a different band. Phish has more jazz, psychadelia, and the Trey band is more rock/jam oriented. Very very similar. They both perform great live, and is how they got their stardom.

I have friends (including by brother) who like both...probably as their two favorite bands.

I'm with you -- I don't really see many similarities.

I thought you were referring to the V Tech QB's reaction after learning he would be up against Eric Berry.

Yea, because we all know Berry has been a huge INT threat this year....

WSP is amazing. I've been into the jamband scene for many years. I'm moving into electronica bands (STS9, Pretty Lights, Ghostland Observatory, etc) all of which you all have never heard of. I'd consider a WSP show and UT game a nice back to back event.

Space Wrangler or Mom's Kitchen? several of Mom's Kitchen and Space Wrangler are on Light Fuse, so if it gets more studio sounding, that's why it's a good recommendation.

Without taking the time to look it up, I believe Space Wrangler was their first album release. It bombed. They released the second album which was self titled but known on the street as the Chicken and Snake or Green album. I've never heard it referred to as Mom's Kitchen. After the success of the second album, they re-released Space Wrangler and the rest is history.

Hell, I am no Panic fan but they are approximately 3 billion times better than Phish.
