Widespread Panic in Atlanta

The only wide spread panic I'm concerned with is the look on the Chokies' fans faces when the sea of orange hits the Georgia dome.

ughhhh...hippies jamming out to the same song for 45 minutes...to quote Eric Cartman.
"Drugs are bad because if you do drugs you're a hippie and hippies suck." & "they want to save the world but all they do is smoke pot and play frisbee!"

I may go..on the fence. I've seen them I think 13 times now, so it won't kill me to miss one.

I went to a WSP concert in Knoxville about 10 years ago with a friend who had an extra ticket. I had never heard of them and knew nothing about them.

I am what some people would call a "square" and was in for quite a treat from the Panic's fans. Pot everywhere with lots of "offers" to share. Got a lot of satisfaction watching the undercover cops bust some kids head in right in front of me. Cops came after one kid and he threw something on the ground and it landed right at my feet. Some kind of saranwrapped pile of pills. I quickly moved to another location.

The hippie dancing form is very interesting as well.

Being a square, and one of the few sober people in the crowd, the only song I remember (and somewhat liked) was Can't Get High.

I think I'll pass this time around.

WSP have never been the only NYE show in Atlanta. there's always been plenty of other options for every taste, even if they are bad.

...following them and selling anything they can to pay the way.

Went to one in Huntsville a while back and there was a guy making and selling grilled cheese sandwiches. He had a propane grille in the trunk of his car where he's whip em up...

I wasn't sure what contained more oil, the sandwich, his hair or the fronts of his pants where he'd been wiping his hands between sandwich grilling. The fronts of his jeans were black and shiny.

The people who follow WP across the country are not right in the head.

I'm 33 and they became popular with the college crowd when I was at UT. Check out a few songs on iTunes or YouTube. You may be missing out!

Their success actually predates you by a half decade. I saw them many times while in Knoxville in the early 90's.

If you rock the jheri curl followed by a high top fade, you're no square Dyron.

Light Fuse, Get Away is a great place to start for anybody looking the get into The Spread. also check out Live In The Classic City.

easily my favorite band.

be weary though because they lost their lead guitarist ('02) and just recently found a replacement ('06-current) to fit their older style.

Many people have been hooked on Panic listening to the self titled album (aka Chicken and Snake cover). The later stuff including Light Fuse gets more studio sounding.

Yep. I first saw them in '87 at the 40 Watt in Athens. Some of the best early shows were in Telluride, CO, when they played at the Sheraton Opra House during the Bill Graham presents music festival and at Fly Me to the Moon Saloon.

Space Wrangler or Mom's Kitchen? several of Mom's Kitchen and Space Wrangler are on Light Fuse, so if it gets more studio sounding, that's why it's a good recommendation.

For those of VolNation that aren't sure...Widespread is well thought of in the music industry. This year's tour is joined by The Allman Brother's(Gov't Mule) and it is one kickass time. If your in Atlanta early and never have seen them, I highly recommend this show. John Bell is my Hero:rock:

Widespread and the Allmans at the same show?? I HAVE to go. That and the game will be quite the awesome two days.

I haven't gotten to see Widespread live yet, but I love their music. I mainly credit Dave Matthews Band (which is a great time live, for those who haven't seen him yet) for getting me into a lot of jam bands, like Phish, Gov't Mule, etc.

In my own opinion, widespread sucks and is a poor excuse for a decent band. But like I said, my own opinion. :)

Ironically, all the bands mentioned above performed at Bonnaroo '05. Well, Anastasio was by himself but it'sjust Phish with a different band. Great event. Most fun I ever had at an event like that. Top it off with the Black Crowes, Les Claypool, Alison Krauss, and The John Butler Trio and you have yourself a epic lineup. Not to mention bands like Kings of Leon, Modest Mouse, and comedian Jim Breuer. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

I reallllly wanna go to Bonnaroo this summer. Got to experience my first music festival this May at the Beale Street MusicFest in Memphis. Had a great time, got to see 311, so good fun in all.
