Everyone knows by now that Dobbs long ball accuracy is not great.
I started thinking back and it dawned on me that our receivers have been dropping balls all season long.
Even when Dobbs hits them on the numbers, there have been many dropped balls.
I have been down on Dobbs concerning his long throws but, these receivers need to step up and give him some help.
What has happened to our receiving corps?.

Corps.

Back to the topic at hand...I don't know. I saw dropped passes all over college and pro games this weekend.

The Malone drop for a TD was bad and could have been very costly. That was a perfect pass. Most people will use this thread to blast Azzani but that was just poor concentration by Josh.

Disappointing, I know. But drops happen - see UGa. I love Dobbs, but many of the "drops" are 2-3 feet off target and the receiver makes a great effort to get a hand on the ball but can't complete the catch. Counts as a drop but was really QB's fault. I've noticed this all season, though Dobbs is making great improvement as the season has progressed.

Crying shame Malone dropped that bomb as it was one of the best play calls (pump, double move,) offensive line efforts (time to develop,) and passes we've had all season. Should've been an instant highlight for the end of season DVD.

With all the drops mentioned, Josh Smith is a joy to watch. That kid is not afraid to go up and get the ball.

I have a theory on that.
I'm glad we have Dobbs as our QB. I'm glad we have Dormy also, and that G-Money is on his way(get to work). This may sound harsh, but here goes. Dobbs has struggled with his accuracy, and the receivers have made some truely great catches due to some throws that were not on target, I'm not sure if it's Dobbs accuracy or if all the receivers run poor routes, that is a possibility, Dobbs rarely throws a duck, so the receivers are playing like DBs, not really sure where the ball will be thrown. So when a ball is on the numbers, it catches them by surprise, they relax for the easy catch, start thinking about the TD they are about to score(I know I would be, the way Terrence described it, sounded almost life changeing), lose focus and then drop an easy catch.

We need Peyton and Tee back, one as a QB coach and the other as reciever's coach. If there is no room on the staff, they can just Volunteer(if that is a NCAA violation, we need to do it legit).

I was hoping he'd corrected that but obviously he hasn't. Its been a couple games since he dropped one. He'd been averaging one per game until Ga.

There weren't many drops and bad throws in the Cutcliffe era because he focused on the details of the passing game and practiced it to the point that the players thought playing the actual game on Saturday was the easy part. I don't think we have that kind of focus and intensity under Butch and Azzani right now. We have process.

True that, Cut has got his hands full at Duke. I miss him too. But there is more to it than what we see, I saw a clip from practice and Pwillie dropped two passes, Butch got on to him, I'm not sure if it was before or after his fumble(poor guy, he will never forget that), but he has gotten much better. It took a lot of discipline not to throw punches.

I think the stakes are so high, it's hard to make it easy, I just hope they are having as much fun playing as I have watching.

Butch said it take 7 years to build an SEC team, is he overthinking this prolonged process or just buying time?

Heath Shuler spent time on 3 different NFL teams. He said Cut was probably the best offensive coach and position coach he ever worked with. He was meticulous like nobody he ever saw

Just to have a little fun with semantics, our receiving corps often plays like a receiving corpse:

Malone is still hot and cold-- he has to start stepping up. Other than Pearson, we have been using 3rd string WRs most of the season..... and a converted QB starts at WR.... Croom, North, Pig, Williams-- they basically haven't played this season or played hurt. If We had at least 3 of the 4 for most of the season at full strength, then I bet we have 2 more in the W column.

I agree that there have been drops. I will come back at you by asking how many of the catches our corps has made could have been drops?

I will answer myself by saying more than you would think. This WR corps has helped him out plenty.

Last question...why can't they drop the hard ones and just make the easy ones?!?!

They definitely have not been playing at a high level this season. We've seen Malone drop quiet a few catches this season. I've been wondering about North. His career started on a high note. He made that one handed catch in the SC game, and made a big catch in the GA game. I thought for sure he was going to be the next big time WR at Tennessee. He's just fell plum off the map!

Just curious but do receivers still practice on the juggs machine or whatever it's called ( like a pitching machine but with footballs) these days? I remember meachem practiced on that a lot.

With tennis balls. Trooper (like him or not) put him in the NFL. He said this was the turning point. He caught so many tennis ball, the football looked huge and like it was moving in slow motion.

Why isn't this a common practice? It is a very good exercise on concentration and consistently. Azzani is a coach I'm starting to dislike. There is no way we should have as many dropped balls as we do with the talent we have.

Hmmm.... Do you remember the career of Marcus Nash and specifically the '97 SECCG vs Auburn? And I loved Tee Martin but come on now, he was not an accurate passer.
