Wide receiver stance

I think its a little early to label Azzanni as a bad recievers coach. Croom has underperformed, but beyond that, I don't think you can hold him accountable for a lack of production from Josh Smith, Jonathan Johnson, or Jacob Carter. Theres only so much you can do with those guys. Pig and North are playing fine and are showing improvement.

On one hand, yes the WRs have been slightly disappointing this year.

HOWEVER, we also have to remember that we were blessed last year with Bray throwing to CP and Hunter (and even ZR tore it up last year). This year we have had three different QBs throwing to mostly inexperienced young guys. It's a tough situation to be a WR without any consistency at the QB position.

Next year, with Treadwell coming in, Pig, and North with another year underneath him, and maybe hopefully Josh Malone, we will have a much better showing IMO.

But who will be the one throwing to them?

Fun Fact of the day: UT QBs this season have accounted for a grand total of 10 passing touchdowns in our first 11 games...

Am I the only one who's never heard of Treadwell?

Worley/ Dobbs inability to lead recievers on deep routes hurt the recievers production. How many times did you see north or smith 5 yards behind the defender only to be under thrown?

You mean josh smith??? Didnt matter if they threw him a perfect ball he wouldn't gonna catch it

Never really noticed UT's WR's as having a different stance then the rest. They all look the same to me.

Does anyone know why butch puts our receivers in that idiotic looking stance? thanks

I Was at the 2013 Coaching Clinic and sat through Coach Azzanni's presentation. His Philosophy is that the Receivers have their inside foot forward and kind of pigeon toes so that they do not rock out of their stance for a false start. Their shoulders are to be over their knees with their chest around 12 inches from their knees. Their hands are supposed to be in a fist and arms ready to pump in a running motion. It looks weird but I actually like their arms and fist in that position ready to rapidly pump. It gives them that split second that they may need since they are already in the running position.

Interesting comments in this thread. TN WRs are completely unable to get off press. Anyone got any new opinions on the WR stance?

The stance is broke down to a science really. It's used to increase many different keys of the wr position. Coach azzanni works these guys to death on fundamentals for a purpose. The stance gets the wr off the line of scrimmage as a sprinter would coming off the blocks in a track and field event. I've been there, watched, listened, and learned. Also researched his coaching philosophies. It looks stupid to some because it's different than what you are use to seeing and doing in your moms back yards. That doesn't make it incorrect. Look into these things before judging them. IMO, he's one of if not the best wr coach in the country at any level. He will do great things. He is a young guy with his own techniques and I think it will impact the position in a good way. He knows his stuff, and it works. Got to get depth and experience in his system and style before casting him out. Patience, unfortunately....patience.

Do you still believe this? You teach his technique?

Evidently, yes, I think we have seen many WR's open in the center of the field, so, it also falls on Qb's not having enough Vision and "just deer watching his intended reciever'. A good quaterback will see a reciever, then shift his eyes and look for #2 or 3 reciever. imo

You are right . Jerry Rice would have been a terrible receiver if his QB threw off time , late , and off target

Dobbs is a tremendous runner and athlete . There is a reason he is limited to single reads on most plays

There is probaly some truth to this!

Dumb, asinine thing to say!

This thread is dumb anyway. Butch doesn't decide how our receivers stand.

What position on the field is doing good consistently? I think they've all been disappointing, I agree though - I expected more from the WR's

Listen, we're 8-4 not 1 and Vandy. We have a lot of good on our team. Backers played well, special teams great, running game was outstanding, and dbs played well at the end.

i dont really care for the offense or the production/coaching of our WR's, but I do like this stance. It allows them to block better with hand placement.
You can say a lot of bad things about WR group and coach, but those guys can block. In fact they are probably asked to block too much on big LB's which might be why they are always getting hurt.
