Wide receiver discussion (merged)

I agree with you. Calling pass plays when you can't pass block is not the answer though. You've got to figure out a way to give the QB some more time.

They don't trust him enough to throw the screen play and that is a play that is designed for the all out rush and fakes inept line play. We still can't trust him to make those 5 yard throws?

Just stfu. Malone and North 0 catches. Blanc, Hurd, Smith, Ellis, Jennings each had 1 catch for a total combined 29 yards. Dobbs had the most receiving yards on the team with 1 catch. Absolutely unexcusable. Totally pathetic.

We agree that our passing game was pathetic. We probably even agree that it was on the coaches. (I'm assuming you think this.) But, to say there wasn't balls being dropped is crazy. We didn't pass it often, but Dobbs and Wolf were the only two sure handed receivers out there today.

Tried that in the OK game if you recall. Ended up getting Intentional grounding due to receiver being covered up.

Interesting stat: In 2015, teams are 188-3 when leading by 13 in the 4th quarter. Tennessee? We make up two of those three losses.

It's mind-boggling. WR talent coming out of our ears and literally no getting the ball in their hands. I don't get it. Every other team in the country manages to find a way.

This staff is TOO SCARED to allow Dobbs to throw the ball and I agree he is NOT accurate at all, but hell at least give him a few chances during the game and let the Receiver ATTEMPT to make a play.................Butch and Co. get tight as hell when the game is close !!

If I were a top notch WR prospect, there is no way in hell I'd come here. Not with this offense.

Unless I just enjoyed run blocking and bubble screens that much.

You can't blame Dobbs for the passing game. We didn't even try to throw it for most of the game.

According to CBJ, a freshmen is too young and inexperienced. How could he have beaten us? We've got a 7-8 win at best coach each season. If we want an elite coach, we're gonna have to drop some money.

There is NO REASON in the world why we couldn't throw more in this game. Dobbs threw a very nice pass to Kamara late--yes? Is there a reason we can't throw a freakin' slant pass or other quick stuff, or throw to the TE more? No. We ran the same three plays over and over and over again.

The talent is there... not sure about how they are being coached. If the wide receivers gave half the effort that the quarterback and running backs give to get extra yards or catch that ball when it touches their finger tips, then perhaps our passing game would not be such a liability.

if you were a WR recruit would YOU be inclined to join THIS offense? You can't sell yourself as WRU if you can't throw the ball. Period.

Sorry...needed to vent on something besides basic math skills, 4 down defense and moronic 4th down time outs.

... and that, folks, is coaching. Have some imagination for goodness sakes! Michigan fans call DeBord "De-Boring" and " De-Bored" Even I could figure out what play was gonna be called. Up the middle, up the middle, up the middle...punt!

There is a reason----

He can't do it consistently.

We don't need him to be great. He is a decent passer. He's our QB! If he can't pass, then he shouldn't be playing. It is utterly stupid. You can't run the same freakin' three plays the entire game. He made a good pass to Kamara at the end.

if any of you young bucks wanted to know what it felt like under Johnny, this is it.

Up the middle, up the middle, up the middle, punt

He missed the same type of wheel route throw earlier in the game. Consistency is the keY and he is clearly not trusted currently.

Your right though, if he can't pass with consistency he shouldn't be in there.

Not to sound overly harsh but that makes him a better rb than qb.

Well probably. Actually, if we're not going to throw the ball then I would rather have Jennings back there.....he's certainly not getting a lot of action at WR and is probably the better runner between he and Dobbs.

All the 4 and 5 star receivers we have and don't even use them. I am at a loss why. I would be looking to transfer if I were them. So much talent just wasted. Both losses this year the defense stacked the line and we never threw downfield. This is piss poor coaching imo. Don't mean to be negative just stating what I see. Defence's don't respect our passing game and until they do we are going to be average... So much talent wasted.

That's fair.
Coach Z is a concern also. You have to admit that when someone like Williams, that spent the least amount of time being "coached" looks the best, is concerning.
